If I had to seat a primer to .0005 tolerance and wear that ridiculous vest and gloves to win a match, I’d give up and go bear hunting in my skivvies with only a knife and a short rope.

You don't need to wear a ridiculous vest (gunsmithing apron) or nitrile gloves to seat to +\- 0.0005" thou depth. Just an ugly PCPS

I would rather look ridiculous for 5 minutes vs the rest of my life when I am sporting a glass eye.

As far as the gloves, I like to keep my equipment in rust free condition. I have oily skin and overtime will make bare steel components rust out.

So you are saying in order to win in benchrest I need to reload in my underwear, use a hand priming tool from the 80's and have a FUDD attitude?

damn......trying to set a good example for the younger generation and I catch heat. I currently have a 17 month old daughter and plan to teach her (safe) reloading as early as possible.

Freak accidents happen, what would you want to be wearing when a stack of 100 primers inside a metal tube goes off?

there's your problem right here, I NEVER load more than 15 primers into the tube, it's a bit of PITA but better be safe than sorry !!

15 primers, 50 primers, 100 primers, there is still always a risk.

I can honestly count on one hand how many times I wore safety gear when priming. It's the fact that when giving education in public we need to make sure we are on our best behavior, not only for the easily influenced younger generation, but for the anti gun nuts as well

only 10 primers and you still need to use a full face safety shield and ear pro.

clearly this is written from a liability/lawyers perspective. I sure as crap ain't going to be refilling my primer tube every 10 rounds during a large (100 round) session.

people are taking this way too seriously, the only reason I wore all of that in the video is to set a good example for public/ potential younger viewers.

The primer punch didn't fully remove the primer. It moved to the priming stage and the new one jammed in and ignited. There was some residue on the primer slide, from prior primer issues with crimped pockets, and let things go back in to the primer magazine. The outer (black) priming magazine contained things.

I did make kinda a critical mistake that I will need to make a
part 3 to resolve.

After getting a few comments from some folks saying they don't need to pull anywhere near as hard as I was on the primal rights unit to get good consistency, I decided to revisit this by trying a few cases out by just going to the bottom of the stroke with normal force.

By not putting significant amount of force this time, I was coming up about 2 thou short of my old set point. I dialed it 2 clicks deeper and voila, back to my old seating depth setting without the extra effort.

My thought process as to why I believe I was unsuccessful with this before is because the unit was brand new and still had some tolerance stacking that needed to be broken in (primal rights states this)

Overall I still give the win to the ugly/derraco unit due to the price point when it comes to precision.

Carl is working on something to speed up the process with the ugly/derraco unit. Whenever that gets released I will make a part 3 speed test.

my method is:

take around 10 random cases and primers and measure each of them.

take deepest primer pocket measurement (ex - 0.130)
take thinnest primer thickness (ex - 0.128)

you would need to be 2 thou below flush to ensure primer anvil contact to the bottom of the pocket.

I go 2 thou below that yet (4 though below flush) to ensure each primer is crushed and sensitized no matter the scenario.

I don't understand how these precision primer seaters maintain consistency. Primer pocket uniformers baseline is the bottom of the rim, where the name/caliber is imprinted. Don't these precision units base themselves off the top of the rim. Won't variable rim thickness cause inconsistencies unless rim thickness sorting is accomplished? Buying quality brass will mitigate the issue.
