Still giving me a message that my username "Carlsbad" isn't available. Sent them a note asking about it several days ago. No reply. I may just have to survive without Snipershide.

SH joined scout, a conglomeration of forums, apparently there was already a user going by Carlsbad, you need to change your screen name, find one not taken. Just use carlsbad2.
Which means you may have to re-register?

My guess is that the owner "had" a popular site and Scout made him a nice offer for it. The new site is garbage. I had joined here, a while ago, to escape the conduct of some members on that site. While being informative, at times, offering ones own opinion could result in severe ridicule. This site has a much better attitude on conduct and the sharing of information for the advancement of the sport. Or maybe I just got too old.

Lowlight still owns Sniper's Hide. If things go south with Scout, the plan is to bring the old site back. That's why it still exists in the form of an archive.

I'm not going to fault anyone for not caring for the place. It has it's shortcomings and I still haven't joined the new site myself.

There are some soft spoken, experienced shooters on the site, but it takes a long time to figure out who's been there and who's just making noise and posting cherry-picked targets.

I sure miss the 'old' SH and those experienced fellows that started about when I did in May 04. I learned a lot from the 'original' crowd that frequented and posted there. Along about 08 with the influx of new shooters and wannabe's that came with the 08 election and its many changes (some for the good and some not so) the "I want to shoot 1K yard club" was born and the entire attitude and personality changed with the thousands that joined just because it was cool to be a member of SNIPERS HIDE! Site doubled from about 30K within 6 months to its present overload of hot air and "I want the skill and info for free" crowd. Since then the same questions at least once a week it seems. Few have experience at all with anything beyond 100 yards and most had never owned a centerfire rifle prior to joining. Went from old school of info from experience to know everything cool tool with a check book or CC trying to buy their way to 1K yards! EVERYONE wants to be a SNIPER!!

Miss the place and the original crowd that I trusted their knowledge and comments. The newer crowd since 08 resort to name calling and insults the minute you don't agree with them or question info they post. I have no desire to argue face to face moreless with some stranger on the net. So I will never log into the new setup and miss the many I learned from in earlier years!

This place is where I spend the majority of my time or RFC but mostly read. Tired of argueing and/or bickering with strangers who have no issues with name calling over some of the most stupid crap!! Don't have much money with med costs etc now so haven't donated here and try to 'pay my way' of sorts by answering a question or two if I can.

Dennis, I applaud your post, it is spot on. I have not tried to log on yet, figured I'd wait till the dust settles. There are some very informative smart shooters over there, but too many smart mouths. JMO.

milo-2....I just can't help but laugh everytime I read the "send it"!!! LOL Makes you feel like you're rubbing noses with a bunch of Postmasters.

I surely am not saying "all" those who signed on since 08 don't know anything, want to clarify that, just that prior to that huge influx you didn't read the crap that regularly came after about that time. They want someone else to spend all the money on load workup etc and want info down to the last tenth of a grain from you. Then get a bit nasty when you try and explain that just because that particular data works for you it may not work for their rig!

Then the fanboys that buy a rifle from a known builder, popular scope make/model at that time etc so they think they will fit in and with nothing else but their checkbook or CC be winning matches at 1K or so because someone else did/does! Sure wished I had some of those rifles and scopes to play with! I would put a scratch or two on them and givem that 'used' look.lol

SD, one thing a guy has to remember, even here, God gave each of us quite a hard drive and processer between our ears, which makes it our jobs to sort through it all, absorb what's needed and discard the trash.
I wasn't around that early, but do know that PRS fiasco really took a toll on the knowledge pool.
I came through Buff a couple times this summer, should jump on 79 some day so we could visit.

milo-2....Sorry, guess I am a bit dense,....what are you referring to with "PRS fiasco"?? Suppose I will have to duh it a couple times after you tell me.lol

My problem is I wasn't raised to be rude, obnoxious, condescending or a bully to anyone, strangers included. Was always taught to treat others with respect etc and only after they showed/proved they were not worthy of such was it acceptable to defend yourself. I just cannot be a dick to someone posting on the net and cannot understand why so many find it necessary and/or entertaining. I have found little in life worth arguing over, perhaps 3 failed marriages contributed to or are the result of that! Although in my defense the first and last cheated on me and stupid me didn't catch on until after they moved out. Yea, slow learner here.

As for you stopping, if you think I am a PIA or know everything when posting on the net you will be sorry you ever stopped for a personal one on one! LOL Honestly, I would enjoy the visit, getting so I cannot afford to get out much anymore so talking firearms related with someone who knows a bit would be appreciated. No real 'shooters' around here close, mostly hunters or plinkers who never miss or have been out shot, but refuse to show up to prove such!

Am appreciative to hear that it is not only me who has seen a big change on SH and who frequents and posts there. Thought maybe it was my imagination or personality changing.

I spend a fair amount of time on SH, but also on this board. The new SH site will have its growing pains, but may work out in the end. My interests are more suited for long range detail work - which seems to fit in nicely right here.

Without a doubt, "The Hide", provided me with a resource, that simply, cannot be bought, bartered, given, or stolen...other than experience.

SCOPES! I called that site the "scope of the month club". Why? People would spend hundreds to thousands of cha ching on the newest, baddest, best piece of glass that was coming on the market. So, make note of what is coming out.......wait three to six months......and watch the classifieds. If you see a bunch of one particular model or brand for sale........RUN away!
