What happened to SnipersHide

IF....WHEN...it goes away, the internet as we know it will be a better place!

Mutant Mall Ninja's at it's finest!

Yea, I've seen that happen before with cigar sites. Want to wager a guess at where a huge chunk of the tactical wannabes with 20" barrels that "will shoot ½ MOA at 1000 yds all day, if I do my part" will end up?

How many mil or MOA threads do you think you'd see here?

Nope, the interweb will not be a better place.

edit: For the record I have posted a lot over there, and I've gleaned a lot of good information there, but you have to turn up you "must ignore" setting pretty high to get through a lot of it.

…..And you thought the obamacare site was bad ;D

I'm sure it'll get better but is certainly interesting they didn't move the old data over, only archiving it. That must have been an expensive move. Works fine for me but is distracting with all the other sites tied in.

Give it some time gents, I suspect it will do just fine, this site and SH are my two go to sites, both offer good info.

It is not a pay site any more than it was before, the search function should be better too.

I think it sucks!!! I tried to log on and couldn't so I had to go with my email and then had to choose a user name. When I put "MY" old user name in it says, sorry its in use!!! SOooo I had to put SH in front of my old name to get it to work but now I am sure I have lost all my years of posting on the sight so I will be just like some new guy on the sight with no posts or buying credit. I am so pissed off at them for doing this. The last time they changed it around I lost half of my postings.

All you need to do to get into the site is type your original username/email and hit "forgot password". Shortly after you'll receive an email with a link to reset it. After that you keep your original name and you can access everything just as before!

Same as everyone else. Had to change my password (to the same password I was using) but then it wants me to choose a username but when I type in my username, it says it is taken. I don't really want to change usernames. --Jerry

As I understand it, from the info that has been put out there, Scout wants to use their own forum software to host the forum on. Likely (in part) because it's already branded and tied to their other properties. They are working on replacing a lot of the functionality and I'm sure they are working like crazy to get it back to normal(-ish). I can't say I understand the logic behind not carrying over the old forum history, but <shrug>. I'm sure it will continue to evolve and restore features pretty quickly.

Some of the vitriol out there (not necessarily here) is pretty surprising.

So far, every time I've tried to register using my old user name & password, it locks up with a '402 server error' message. Kinda discouraging - there's a lot of good info on the old site that I'm gonna miss being able to access. Hope they get it sorted out this week...if not, I may just delete it out of my favorites and try to forget about it.

I'll second Dan Armstrong's opinion.

DITTO. Very few "shooting" websites out there conducted in a civilized manner. SH was never one of them, and 24hrcampfire ain't much better.

The only gripe I have with it is that google search results that are from the snipers hide forum no longer link to the post but take you to the main page.

I've been shooting a lot of practical steel matches over the past three years - in fact, more of them than the XC & LR HP matches that I used to shoot. There's more relevant discussion for these matches on the hide than anywhere else I've found. There are (or were) also some very knowledgeable guys who are members there. Lots of info on using ffp & mil reticles that someone who came over from sfp/moa scopes can benefit from. Lots of info on most of the tactical ffp mil/mil scopes most commonly used in practical shooting, and lots of discussion on ballistics apps that we use.

Sure, there are plenty of the 'mall ninja' types who also post there, but show me one shooting site that doesn't have its share of that type of member. Some of the hide members have very little to no tolerance for the posers, and in most cases, I agree with their reactions to this sort of BS. But then, I'm 63yrs old, and have a great deal of respect for VN vets, as well as their younger brothers in arms from Iraq & Afghanistan. My take on the SH forum is that there's a large number of shooters like myself who're looking for information on both equipment & technique to help them become better practical rifle shooters. So I want to see the owner (Frank) get through this transition and restore the site to its former usefulness, or fall back on owning the site privately and leaving the Scout Group if he can't.

Jay,

I was told by " someone in the know " that the old posts will be archived for everyones access, but there won`t be any posting to those threads allowed......

At least the info will be available........i hope.

Just tried this and it keeps coming up as Internet Explorer cannot display this page.

I tried this and it tells me my user name has already been taken. --Jerry

I'm not really liking the new SH forum, I guess time will tell. In the past I only read here and didn't post, looks like it's time to make a change.
