what did you shoot today?

Cold, windy and wet here in NE Wisconsin today but was out shooting in it anyway. Checked zero on my sons Rem 700 in 270 Win. one shot each at 50 and 100 yards to confirm zero. that went well
Moved on to my TC Contender carbine in 22 hornet. Recently replaced the optic on this with a Leupold 2 to 7 Vari-XIII with a dot. Got it on paper after a couple of shots at 50 yards. Then the sleet started and I chickened out. Back at it when weather gets better. Till then we have deer season opener this weekend. Always a fun weekend with family. I don't hunt anymore at 75 years, but play cook/bottle washer and bartender. Gotta love it.

Alternating shooting preferences here. Sometimes I shoot for fun while other times I shoot for accuracy. Sometimes handguns. Sometimes .22 caliber rifles. Other times I shoot reloads from a custom precision built 6mm PPC. Just depends on what mood I'm in on that particulr day.

Wish I lived in Arkansas on a decent sized piece of land. At 84 years I'm just too old now to move

I am posting this data today not to show off my shooting skills but to show what a great job my son did truing a 40 year old Remington 700 Varmint rifle. This was his first build. He has only been in the business a couple years now. He is a 30 year ME and could have been a Machinist or Millwright when he got out of school but his grades were so high I re-mortgaged my house to send him to college. He took machinist night classes and has been to a couple gun smith classes this last year. He retires in two years and plans to do it full time. I shot the groups in the photo with a 3" bag rider up front off a Shade Tree rest and a DR bag for the but. It was overcast (a good thing for me) 5 to 7 wind @ 90 and 32 degrees. I held it tight in the shoulder with a good tight grip. It has a Bartlein barrel and a Trigger Tech trigger set down to 1 lb. 5 ozs. I will be 81 this week and it just doesn't get any better than this for me.

Shot this 5-shot gp. with my ODCR Rem 700 30BR today. Been awhile since I had it on the bench. Had @ 10 mph right to left wind but watched the surveyor's tape closely and took my time.
I have one his, I need to get out & blow the dust/ rust out of myself,… I’ve just had fun with this new build of getting it to feed from a mag , then load development… just hadn’t time to do it yet…

After I tested some loads in my 6br at 100 yards, I wanted to get some velocities for some loads I shoot in my Glock long slide 10mm. I layed the Glock on my front rest, took careful aim and fired 5 shots at the target. I was happily surprised at the results. They’re the big holes in the targets.

I was not sure where to ask this. Today I got out and shot only powder and ball revolvers (percussion).
The Targets were:

Cardboard animals
Plastic pop bottles (two liters)
Aluminum soft-drink/beer cans (all empty from the recycling bin b.t.w.)
Dixie brand paper plates glued to two by four posts with bullseye rings drawn on with a sharpie

Target distances were 5, 10, 15 yards away so in my estimation safe given the materials
All firearms were reproductions only, no originals
i shot my colt 1911 Gov Model that ive had 50 years. it of coarse is a 45acp. its been in pieces for a long time and i just got it put back together. been a long time since i shot it. it was the first pistol i owned. put many thousand rounds through it back in the day. i bought cast bullets back then and loaded 45acp rounds for a little less than 5 cents apiece—2.50 for 50- them were the days and i didnt even know it back then.
Happy Days today though- Im still smilin!!:)
