Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hi All! Brand new member to the forum - long time stalker of the forum? I'm excited to be a part of the forum and join in the conversations.

I'm rather new to reloading; I've been at it for right around 2 years now. Started out as I suspect many do, by buying equipment with a certain goal in mind, only to later determine that I need better/different equipment to meet those goals. I'm currently loading for 6.5 Creedmoor only. I was previously loading 9mm and .308, but I haven't in a while now.

I'm looking forward to joining in on the discussions and learning from so many of you! The amount of knowledge and experience here is amazing!

Well, I'm off to the GinaErick annealer topic. I've been buying parts to build my own version. Can't wait.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello, First time poster.

Thank for having me, and thank you to all the posters for all the priceless knowledge I have learned and
will learn from the site. I hope I can contribute at some point.

I have been reloading for a while, but not as much the past couple years due to the incredible price of ammunition. I am dusting off my stuff and starting to load again. Luckily I had the foresight to buy enough supplies to reload about 5000 rounds of different calibers. I have a "decent supply" of finished ammo stored (we'll see how decent it really turns out to be) and have decided to start loading to help supply ammo to friends and family. I am currently loading 380,9MM,223,270,30-06. I am consider starting to load .25,.32 and shot shell.

I am sure I will have some questions from the pro's around here, and I thank you in advance. The wisdom of a lifetime's worth of experience, trial & error, and invested time that is taught to another is undeniably one of the most valuable gifts a person can give.

Kenneth

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say I have read a number of post here and found some good info. I have been shooting for 62 years and reloading for 51 years and I still have questions. There is always something new to learn. My eyes are not as good as they once were so I have had to cut my yardage back on the shooting range. My favorite paper shooting rifles are 308 and 6 mm Rem.

Hi all,

Im new to the forum, but I have been reloading for the last 5 years. Mostly been loading .40, 5.56, and 6.5 CM. But I am going to start doing 9mm, and .45 ACP soon. Currently doing everything on a single stage. Hopefully going to be buying a progressive once they cone back in stock.

New to the forum. Not really a target shooter, mainly a hunter that likes very accurate rifles. Working on a 22 Creedmor for problem pigs in my area. So far so good. Primarily shoot an a very accurate AR in 6.5 Grendel, but just received a 375 Ruger for the hogs I can put a saddle on, and, right now it seems I can find bullets for the big bore.
Should be interesting!

Hey guys, long term shooter and reloader here in Canada. Just bought a No1, which I've wanted for years, in 458 Lott. Wanted 45-70 but they seldom come up for sale and I just sold a Marlin 45-70 and have enough components for over 2000 rounds so I grabbed this one. Will be looking for reduced 458 Loads using IMR 4198 and multiple bullets 405HCL and 300-350gr jacketed, even 350gr plated limited to 1700fps

Hi,
I just joined the forum, but I have been reloading for almost 30 years. I look forward to gaining and sharing knowledge about all things reloading. I have been trying some tips and tricks I have learned browsing this sight, and I have never reloaded more accurate ammo. Once I learn to add pics I hope to share some groups along with what has worked for me.

Have a Rem. 30 S Express and need a firing pin spring. Just ordered a Firing Pin, 7 1/2" long and mine is at 7 3/8"...have had several mis-fires so attributing it to the firing pin...correct me if I'm wrong. Would like to replace the firing pin spring but so far unable to locate one through known sources. Appreciate any suggestions. Living in the Southern US. Thanks!

Hi.

My name is George and I live in England. I'm ex Services and have been shooting CF rifles since 1966. I started off with .303 Lee Enfield Mk4. Currently running 2 Mauser M12 Impacts in .243 and 6.5x55. I've been reloading for 25 years.
I'm looking forward to picking up new ideas and tips from all the users on here.

Good morning! Another new member here from the wet side of Washington State. Retired Army. Still trying to deer hunt but getting tougher to get too far into the hills anymore. Started varmint shooting (sage rats in Oregon) a few years back and plan to make it an annual event for as long as I can.

I have been reloading since the late 70s. Shot high power competition in the 90s. But then stopped shooting from about 2000 - 2015. So I'm still catching up on things.

Thanks! Randall

Hello,
Guess it’s time to start reloading, even though the supplies are kind hard to get. Not as bad as manufactured ammo. Torn between the proud feelings of more citizens owning and shooting firearms, and the gun grab the inconveniences long time shootas.
I’ve been shooting paper since I could buy my first gun in 1997. Never hunted, can’t stand the taste of the meat. Maybe I could donate it if I ever felt like trying the hunt experience.
Been in gun heaven since moving out of Cali in 2012. I was missing so much, I felt. Washington State is getting strict now too.
I mostly shoot the very popular cartridges but decided to build a .50 Beowulf and that’s the round leading me into reloading; might as well try and get my .223/5.56s little tighter .. little further out. I’m restricted to 200 yrds in my area currently but that’s plenty fun for paper for now. I’ve been saving and collecting the parts and tools as I can in anticipation of finally finding the primers I need.... no rush I guess. The longer range and thought of hand loaded hole punchers has me planing on a straight shooter (.308 or 6.5C), which is exciting because the only bolt gun I ever had was the Mosin Nagant. Regret selling it now...
Anyway I would appreciate some dialogue and perspective (experienced) in the loading world. I figured I’d go where people are talking about it besides my father-in-laws’ house.
Thx ahead of time, thx for having me.

Hey,
In the state as well, just introduced myself too.
I’m really just getting started..... haven’t loaded a single round yet. Doing my homework first I guess , seeing I cannot get the primers I need.
father in-law says it takes a long time to get the feel for loading and would like to spend more time with him in this but he’s quite difficult to be around. He’s the end all be all..... classic?

I just finished reading lymans 50th edition loading handbook. I just wanted to get a feel for the importance of case prep. There’s a whole chapter for extensive case work with improvements to overall accuracy.

how do feel about that?

Hello fellow shooters & re-loaders. I going fishing in coastal Alaska and looking for anybody that has advice on re-loading for a 45-70 government. The rifle I am using is a modern Marlin lever action rifle carried with the intent to be used as Brown Bear self defense gun. Have a box 400 grain Speer bullets to load.
Any suggestion on powder and weights for s self defense weapon on bears/

I just joined the forum.

I started casting bullets and reloading pistol cases for my dad as a teenager, and I started reloadeding for my 7mm Rem Mag when I got out of school. Most of my equipment is 30+ years old (700 BDL in 7mm RM w original walnut stock, Leupold 2.5x8 Vari-X III with duplex reticle, RCBS rock chucker, chronagraph, ~140 Remington cases, misc bullets, primers and powder). I have been overseas for most of the last 20 years, and I put all my equipment into storage. I’m now retired and want to get back into shooting and reloading.

My goal is to build a load and system capable of hitting ~12” targets at 1000 yards. I have no plans to compete, just want to be able to guess the range, dial in the scope, and try to make hits. I enjoy the technical aspects of reloading, don’t mind spending time at the bench. I might use this gun for long range varmint or hogs. I think I would never shoot more than 20-30 rounds in a day, about once a week. I quit hunting deer years ago, but there is a small chance I would want to use the gun for hunting deer/elk.

My goal is not to have a ELD hunting gun, I want a ELD target gun that could double as a 100-300 yard hunting gun. I don’t have to have a 7mm RM, it’s just that it is what I already have.

My initial thoughts were to:
Replace the wood stock with an aluminum chassis, maybe a MDT product.
Purchase the Arken SH4 Gen 2 6x24-50 scope.
Replace the stock trigger.
Work up loads with H4831 and CCI 250 and high BC Berger 180 gr bullets.
Make decision later if I need to replace the stock barrel (my 700 BDL has had ~200 rounds fired).

Questions:
Is my plan reasonable? Will this gun be able to shoot 0.5 MOA?
Am I wasting my time and money on this 700 BDL in 7mm RM?
Should I just go out and buy a whole new rifle?
Is the 7mm RM going to beat me up, make me wish I had a 243 or 6mm Dasher or similar?
Can I use the 30 year old Remington cases, or start with new cases?
Safe to use the old powder and primers to practice shooting, and get used to the new scope?

Thanks for any feedback.

Dang I’m so new to forums I screwed up my first message. Anyhoo, I’m a newbie and was lucky I didn’t blow my gun up following ill advice from some knucklehead answering the phone at Speer. I’ve learned a lot since then and I’ve managed to develop some fast and accurate 300 blk loads and I’m working on tinkering to specific rifles. I’ll start working on .308 Win pretty soon also. I’m only listening to experienced loaders now because you never know who’s answering the phone and whether they really know something or give a crap. For instance, telling a newbie to jump to a max compressed load to resolve a cycling problem was dangerous advice when the (now I Know) problem was bullet shape and size. You would think a tech guy would know that about his own product but apparently not necessarily. So I’m happy to be here and I’m all ears despite Speer trying to remove one from my head.
