Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hi, New here form the horrible authoritarian state of MI. I’m not new to reloading but I have been out of it for over 20 years. Sold all my furnaces, molds, sizers and most of my presses. I kept a RC II and my Dillon SDB in 45 acp.
I have 5 pounds of 2230 and about 2000 different primers (mostly LP). Various cast bullets in 9mm 40 S&W and 45 acp. Lots of brass. Not enough of anything to make a complete round in any single caliber..... of course. I’m not going to participate in these current inflated prices so I might be fiddling around with what I have for a while. My first bigger purchase will be a new wet tumbler to get all my brass clean and ready for when I find powder and bullets for 45 acp. I thought flying was a rich mans sport but it looks like it’s been overtaken by shooting.

My first question is when I pulled my SDB out of the storage tote I noticed it came with 4 primer tubes with 4 different colored tips. Current models only come with 2 tubes. 2 are about 18” long and the other 2 are about 13” long. Anyone know why they used to have two different length tubes? The primer pickup diameters appear to be the same. (2) large and (2) small.

Never mind, I found the SDB manual online and figured it out. The longer tubes drop into the primer housing/shield to accept the primers from the pickup tubes.

Hello everyone. Just an ole has been Vet, disabled service connected, but hanging on. I can hear the limb cracking but I'm gonna wait till it gets closer to the ground before jumping!!! Have followed site for some time and decided to become a member. Great people and well run site.
Thank you and God speed.

Thanks for the group here and adding me. Just started using the 6.5 CM in the ar10 platform took some time for the build but it was worth it for sure. Clover leaf with factory Ammo by a young man that doesn’t even shoot.

Howdy Folks,
I have been reading this forum / site for a while and enjoying the first hand info so I decided to join. I have been building rifles for quite awhile but still have a lot to learn. I just finished rebuilding a neglected (read trashed) 280 AI on a VZ24 action, a couple 25-06's and my favorite, a 6.5-06 on an Interarms MK X. I am currently building a 257 Rob on an FN Mauser 98 intermediate action, for my "little" brother. Glad to be a part of this gang. Thanks for the join !

Hi, never done any reloading in the past, primarily .22 rimfire shooter. Just purchased a couple Wichita Engineering guns chambered in 7mm PPC Imp. And if I Plan shooting them, I suppose I’ll need to tool up to make my out rounds as it is not a store bought round. Looking for any help and advice, books to read, tooling I’ll need, how to find reloading dies, everything from scratch. I know the round is based on the .220 Russian, and I have some info I’ve gotten from other sources, but have a long way o go. Any and all help is welcome!

I used to reload on a Dillon 550B twenty years ago. Mostly .45 auto, 9mm, .44 mag and .308. I recently purchased a Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 plus a Rossi Puma lever gun in .480 Ruger and know that I had better get back into reloading. I have all my old dies on tool heads so I am half way there. I did order and receive a new Dillon 550C set up for .480 Ruger. I have brass, some powder, a few hundred primers and some bullets. So, I am just about ready to screw things into a reloading bench and start up. I have found this site to be helpful. I live in Arizona, am in my 70’s, and still shoot a lot. I am in a rural area and can shoot steel up to 500 yards off my back porch. Let the reloading begin.

Hello all, new member to the forum. I'm from Washington State. Originally from Illinois. Really just starting to get into mid caliber long range shooting and looking at reloading in the future. I am an active member on Rokslide and Hunting Washington. I like to hunt and shoot both firearms and archery. Hoping to gain some of the great knowledge that can be found on this forum and maybe someday pass that on to another member.

Hoe gaan dit, vriende. I'm up in Northern New England. I'm on the site mainly to interact with other reloaders. I reload for a variety of calibers, mainly for my hunting rifles. Finding components has not been too difficult for some calibers but others such as my 6.5 Grendel (fired from a bolt action Ruger; a great mid-size game hunting rifle) has been a problem.

Welcome aboard to all you guys! Glad you are here! Just remember, even us old guys can learn something! Even if it is from the new guys! Don't be afraid to post on a thread. Most of us here are welcome to new ideas. Also, If you have a question about what is being talked about, please post it in the thread. Someone will break it down so you understand!!! I've been reloading for over 25 yrs and I still post questions about things I don't understand. That's how we learn!!

Hello to all! My "handle" is Modoc Guy. Modoc is the northern California county where I currently live.

I've just begun reloading with the help of a friend who's a member here. I've started with a Dillon 550C, and a RCBS jr3. Still collecting all my needed items to go full reload vs buying store bought.

So far, I've had help from you all in the classified section, helping me get dies to start. I'll be posting my first "noob" question today, so be gentle with me!

Looking forward to learning a lot, so thanks in advance!

Greetings from LA (lower Alabama) aka the Redneck Riviera, Panama City, Florida. Been reloading for a while but just started with shot shells. From what I gather a lot less forgiving than metal rifle and pistol cartridges. Also with component shortage have been experimenting in all calibers with still easily found powders to replace some of my others I'm saving for whatever reason.

Loading 45-70 cast 405 gr. 44 magnum cast 310 gr with gas checks and 500 Linebaugh with 420 cast no gas checks. Have been working up loads with Alliant Steel in the 44 magnum and 500 Linebaugh. Going to begin experimentation or load workup with the 45-70 next and finally when everything gets here some load work up on a 630 gr. Paradox slug I'm casting from wheel weights.

So wish I had bought more primers and powder back before the great shortage but hindsight and 20/20 being what it is. Casting two styles of 405 gr. for the 45-70, was casting some 500 gr. but didn't like em, settled on the LEE 310 gr. for the .44 with some hotter loads for carry in pig, bear and mountain lion country. Still looking for a mold to cast for the 500 Linebaugh. Going to try throwing some 435 gr. WFN gas checked and some 525 gr. WFN gas checked as soon as they get here then try to make a decision from there.

All of my bullets and slugs I cast from melted wheel weights fluxed with sulfur and for my muzzleloaders I use pure lead and push with real BP.

Since Alliant Steel meters so poorly I am using LEE scoops, so far here's what I've settled on
44 mag, 310 gr. cast: 1 cc. Alliant Steel for plinking and practice and 1.3 cc for carry in self defense.
500 Linebaugh 420 gr. cast: 2.0 cc. Alliant Steel for practice and 2.2 cc for carry.
Cases fell out of the cylinders on all loads and no signs of pressure issues. Powder is so bulky that the scoop weights do not match what LEE dipper charts say they should weigh.

Will start load workup for 45-70 tomorrow evening and welcome any suggestions with Alliant Steel.

Ron from NH here. Been shooting my entire life. In the past 2 years I have gotten serious about the precision game. So much so that I also taught myself to Hand Load my own Cartridges. What a deep and dark rabbit hole that is!!! I am prior Military. USMC from 1990-1998. Army from 2000-2005. 1 tour in the shitbox aptly named Iraq. I am looking forward to this forum to find like minded people with a lot more knowledge than me in the Precision Shooting world. Thanks for letting me join.

Welcome from Texas. I don’t fish but I can get kind of musky after a few days in the field.
