Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

The name's Barry. Been shooting for over 30 years, and I just started reloading. Looking for advice so I buy the right tools.

Call me Ancient Riflesmith.Bcuz, I've built custom guns for over 50 years, and I am pretty ancient. Been shooting since the 1940s, began hunting at 9, Brother and I were taught reloading about 1951, began apprenticeship with gunsmith at age 14. Joined the Navy as a Aviation Metalsmith, taught AM school, welding, heat-treating, electroplating and opened custom gunshop at age 24. Old now but still built and test guns. Hunt all season, reload and shoot nearly everyday. Have three shooting ranges on our ranch in Arkansas. Have wildcatted and tested several cartridges, including a .243 x 06, a .429 x 2 rimless for Mausers, and a 308 x 444 M. which later became the 307 Win without my help... Project of the day, working up load for 6x47 on custom Rem. 26 x 1" PAC SS. Latest toy Colt AR 300AAC BLK, results so far its holding MOA coyote at 172 yds. most of my bench rest is from one window or another, targets crows, coyotes or a whistle pig if the hay is short.

Hi, I'm Milt from Greensboro, N.C. and I'm getting back into reloading after being away from it for over 50 years. Yep I'm an old timer but very interested in what members here have to say about their progressive reloaders.

Been reading your posts for two weeks now and decided to join. Got my first rifle in 1957 and started reloading in 1968. If it goes bang I have shot it or want to shoot it. Have shot matches from small bore in college to NRA National match, bench rest to 1000 yd long range, pistol or rifle I like them all. Also have hunted just about everything in the lower 48 of the USA.

Hi,

My name is Mike and live in the N.E., I'm interested in reloading .223/5.56 For a Stag Arms 6L. Barrel is etched with 1:8 and 5.56.

I have my tools and have reloaded a couple of 100 cases so far, which means I know everything. But we all know that isn't true.

Looking forward to reading, asking questions and learning, mj52

Do you always need to answer the 4 verification questions or is there a way around that?

Hi Folks!
I'm just getting my toes in the water in Service Rifle at the tender age of almost 58. I've got most of the reloading equipment I think I need, and have read the loading manuals pretty thoroughly. I discovered Service Rifle after I bought my first AR-15 on a whim and promptly discovered that it was the wrong rifle for SR! (It's a DPMS Panther 16" carbine). Oh well, live and learn, and darn, had to buy another rifle! :)

My brand new Rock River NM A2 rifle just arrived after a 6 month wait and now I'm ready to start reloading for it. I'm very pleased with it. It's got a heavy stainless match barrel with Wylde chamber, 20" and 1:8 twist. So far I've only shot it once to get it close to dialed in, but only had 55 gr ammo ready to shoot.

I have some questions about the load development process. I've read the manuals, but would appreciate some feedback. Should I load just 10 at a time, shoot, examine the brass and load again? So far the brass I have is some once-fired Hornady .223 Rem, and a bunch of once-fired Lake City brass, both .223 and 5.56.

I'm unclear about the difference in load data between 223 Rem and 5.56. Do I use the 223 data or will that load be under-power? Would it be safe?

I feel pretty conservative, and will start at the minimum load data. I'm having trouble finding powder, so I have acquired 4 1lb bottles of Accurate 2200, one of 2460, and 1 of Varget. Likewise with primers. I have 100 Winchester SR, and 1000 CCI SR (I made sure they were not for magnum loads). I'd like to standardize on a powder but it's hard right now because it's so hard to come by. Any recommendations for sources, etc. would also be very helpful!

Having loaded shotshells for years, the primer and wad always made a big difference and one should not mix components.

Rifle reloading seems to be different as the primers are not listed with the powder, nor is the brass. I want to do this right, so any feedback about process would be much appreciated. Having a gun blow up would really ruin my day, not to mention the gun so I want to go about this the right way. IMHO, safety trumps everything.

Thanks for any feedback y'all may have!

New to the forum. Looking forward to "chatting" as it were. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I Have been a competitive shooter both in the military and out. I enjoy hunting, fishing and lots of time at the range (Have my own). I have been reloading since 1977 but I learn something new at times from those wiser and more knowledgeable than I and I am not ashamed to admit that I don't know it all. I venture out from time to time on some new project or interest concerning calibers and /or rifles, currently working with the 338-375 Ruger, and welcome any and all responses to questions I may be scratching my head about.

CC

Welcome to you!! You live in one of the most gorgeous parts of the country... Virginia may very well be the prettiest state in the Union.. At any rate, feel free to ask away... As I always said, "the only dumb question, is the one you need answers to and won't ask"..

Hello all. I'm mainly a hunter who's been bitten by the accuracy bug and looking to expand my knowledge of reloading and shooting. I recently built a custom rifle on a sako action and interested in extending my accurate shooting range. Been lurking and decided to join.

Thank you for the welcome ShootDots. And yes, it's quite nice here in the Valley, but am looking at relocating to Southwest Wyoming for my retirement. Go figure.

CC :)

Hello, all.

After a forty year hiatus, I got back into shooting last year. I'm currently enjoying a Remington 700 5R in .308. I just started reloading again this year.

I'm lucky to be in Florida, where I can shoot year 'round.

Hello Friends;

Name's Chris. I'm a relatively 'new' reloader, after a 20 year hiatus from casting/reloading pistol stuff long before I had any idea how many times I should have blown myself up! :o

I'm now loading 380/9mm/40/30-06/243/5.56.....and starting to peak an interest in accurate rifle shooting. Many hundreds of hours researching and learning about reloading for rifles has led me to this....it's infinite and fascinating, to say the least.

Looking forward to learning from those who know it well...thanks for having me!

Chris.

Chris,
Welcome to the best precision reloading/shooting forum in the world! The men and women here are top notch and willing to help as long as a person is willing to learn. I look forward in seeing your posts, ask lots of questions. It won't take long for you to figure out who to go to.
Wayne.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Howdy, Just started the 1000yd game in montana, starting out with a homemade action that I designed myself, pushing a dasher cause the great folks at deep creek convinced me it can shoot well. Still trying to work up a competitive load, hence, Start Over. :-\

Hi guys,
This looks like the real deal...good site for us projectile launching powder burner's!! My name is Joe and it's great to be again thinking, talking, and living guns and shooting. You see, I took about 6 years off to obtain my doctorate in curriculum and instruction and just did not have time for shop and shooting stuff. Now however, I'm back at it and going to start my shop up again (gunsmithing--although mostly simply repair work until I can get tooled up again). Plan to start a website for Double-J Firearms...that's my FFL under Joe's Gun Shop.

Nice to drop in and touch base with all here.

Hello all, glad to finally be a member, I've been a lurker since before last Christmas. I'm not new to reloading or shooting but I am always looking for new information that will help me be more accurate. I don't shoot competitively (at least with firearms) but I shoot regularly.
