Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hello Everyone, I'm new to Shooters Forum--what a great place to get info on so many subjects. I'd like to try F-TR in 308. Just getting started and have acquired a used Remington 700 in 308 with a 24" heavy barrel stainless/fluted and synthetic stock. I believe the action and trigger have been worked on--action is very smooth and trigger is at 2 lbs. I look forward to learning about reloading and doing mods on this rifle. Thanks ahead of time for any help you all and this site will provide. Moderator, thanks again for your advice--I did delete the thread.

I have never posted in any type of forum until now. I have always used the internet strictly as an information resource but being that one of my favorite interests is wringing the utmost precision out of a rifle, I keep winding up on this site. It is by far my favorite so I felt I might as well be a part of it.
I have had a few 1/2 minute rifles but just recently, over the past year) have I got into sub 1/2 minute groupings. I own a trued Rem. 700 with a Krieger #7 contour - 8.5 twist barrel, Jewell trigger, and H.S. Precision sporter stock, had to woller the barrel channel out a bit) chambered to 6.5x55. This concoction shoots quite well, averages high .2s-low .3s).
I would like to find time in the near future to attend some varmint matches.
Thanks for all the work that goes into this website.

Hi,everyone! I'm glad I was able to find this forum, I've found lots of good info. My name is John, and I just got back into the comp. world of shooting. I don't shoot bench rest for the simple reason, I'm not good enough :).The shooting game got expensive for me,because when I started, my wife wanted to join in. I started off with a .223 Rem. which I got to shoot very well and now my wife took it over and started shooting it better than me.:confused:I'm now working with a Rem. 700 re barreled with a heavy Hart 1-10 26" in .308 Win. Two shooters, two rifles,2 front rests, etc, etc .
Lois,my wife, and I shoot at various ranges in the area in the groundhog matches. Not much payout but lots of fun. I load for both of our rifles with her help on occasions. We'll be competing in 3 classes this year. Factory Varmint,Savage mod. 12 .243 Win.)Light custom, and heavy custom.

Been reading mostly for awhile now, post very rarely however that will most likely change as I will be getting my first custom gun in 6mm BR soon. This site was the primary reason for selecting the caliber. Very informative with exceptional knowledge of the members.

I shoot mostly paper and prairie dogs/varmints, plus an occasional deer or elk. Have reloaded for about 10 years or so and hope to get better at both the reloading and shooting for accuracy. With the help here I am sure it will happen. Hats off to a great website!

I fell in love with 6BR a couple of years ago after a friend let me shoot his spare rifle on the second day of an F-Class match. I shot 200/200 in the two strings and the rest was history. I enjoy shooting more than loading so I am happy as heck with the unfettered 6mm BR Norma rather than its many wildcat variants.

I'm up in Canada near Kamloops, which is a shooting mecca. All My rigs are built on combinations of Nesika and blurprinted Remington actions. I exclusively use barrels from a couple of our outstanding home grown barrel makers up here.

I thoroughly enjoy reading comments and advice from the many experts that frequent this site and I learn something new every time I visit.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Everyone,
I shot rats when I was a kid on my grandfathers farm- my family didnt like to hunt. But now that I'm retired, I'm hunting deer in upstate New York for the past 2 years.
At our local range I met 3 great guys: two benchrest shooters, and one pure varmint hunter, and the four of us are going on my first prairie dog hunt in June. I retired 2 years ago, and have, with tremendous help from my friends, gotten into reloading multiple calibers. Mostly have Savage guns,2 guns, 5 barrels)- no custom rigs yet-- but I'm REALLY interested in building a 6BR or 6.5 .284. I like the idea of using off-the-shelf brass, so I'm leaning toward the 6BR.
This site has more than I can learn in a lifetime!
Thanks,
Bob

Hi all,

Iam Mitchell Iam from Australia.I have just had a 6mm br built. So far I have used your forum for most of the info needed to order the parts to get my rifle off the ground. The rifle is the most accurate rifle I have ever used.
Keep up the good work and I hope to contribute when I get the experience.

Hello All;

I'm engineer49. Been reloading for several years. I use a TC Contender in .223, 30/30, 44 mag and 45/70 for hunting. Hope to absorb some knowledge.

how do you form 308 or 243 into 6br brass?

You can do it with the use of forming dies, but it is absolutely not worth the trouble. Just buy Lapua 6BR brass--it will be more consistent, and stronger, than anything you can form up.

After falling for the guns shown on here, I bought a used 6mm BR off gunbroker. The first shots with 107 g Sierra MK's gave 5 shot 100 yrd groups in the 1's and 2's when they were jumping 10-20 thou. I guess they are stabilizing. This is my first BR gun. Needless to say, I am amazed. A bughole gun makes you happy. Thanks guys for teaching me how to reload for accuracy!

Greetings from North Idaho,

I'm new to your site and found a terrific amount of good loading and accuracy material. Like most, I'm always interested in tiny groups and intend to check in regularly on new ideas. Great web-site !

:thumb:To All:
I have been a gun nut for 40 years, started reloading in the early 70's....Started Benchrest 100/200 group/score in 1988...Allways looking for a better/easier/more cost efficient methods to existing tasks...I believe that everyone has something to contribute no mater how small, there is so much that we all overlook and say, how come I didn't think of that? I look forward to the days ahead, keep the threads going!

Greetings,
I'm in Rochester New York, and am pretty new to accurate shooting- started two years ago when I couldn't get a Rem 7400 to shoot straight,or as straight as I thought it should shoot) and two guys at our range saw I was struggling and helped. Soon I was reloading, and currently have two bedded Savage 12BVSS with custom barrels in 22-250 and 223. Am now loading 1000 rounds for each for a prairie dog hunt in June. After that one of the BR shooters who has been helping me get started in this accuracy area, and I will be building a 600 yd range on a friends property and hope to work our way to the Williamsport 1000yd range. I am intrigued by the 6.5 284 for the 1000 yds. Because I'm 58 yrs old, I haven't got 30 years to learn this stuff, so I rely heavily on friends and places like this great web site!
Happy hunting/shooting.
Bob

Just signed up to the forum. Been avid shooter and reloader for recreation all my life. Got my first 6ppc last week and my mentor Gene Beggs is helping me get started. Panda action, Hart barrel, Lee 6 stock, jewel trigger and leupold 36 power scope. Looking forward to the first compition.

Hello everyone, I joined the forum to read your thoughts on reloading, better accuracy, new and different calibers. I've been reloading since 1974, when I started with an RCBS Rock Chucker Junior. It's still around, I use it at home to develop loads, while the Dillon 550B does the majority of the work. I load for a great number of cartridges, both pistol and rifle, from 22-250 to 300 Weatherby and 30 carbine to 44 mag. Lately I've kind of switched from hunting loads to loading for pure accuracy. My best group from my .308win is .16". That's very very good for me, especially since I went blind in one eye 2 years ago...

Thanks, everyone

G'day All
I live in Maffra, Victoria, Australia and have recently retired.
I am getting back into shooting through hunting and F-Class Standard after being out of it for a few years. My rifle is a Savage 16FSS in 223 Rem which I will use for hunting and F-Class Standard [out to 600 yds max I suspect]. I hope to be able to pick people's brains on good reloads for the 223 initially using Sierra 69gr HPBT MK and later using Sierra 80 gr HPBT MK.
I will be reading the forums closely to get some ideas on an F-Class Open rifle [6BR piques my interest after watching two of our F=Class Open shooters put all their strings into the 8 ring or better at 500 yds].
That's all for now,
Iggy

Hi folks,
I've been reading info / data on this site for several weeks now - very good web site and forum! Just a few months ago I bought a new savage model 12 low profile in .243,1:9.25 twist) and I put it on a choate ultimate varmint stock - horus vision predator with H-70 reticle on top. Anyway, I just started reloading a month ago and I'm trying to get this thing to shoot tighter groups. The best I've done = 9 rounds of 75 gr VMAX from 115 yards. I put 6 of those inside a dime, but the other three widened the overall group to just under a quarter. So I'll continue working . . . I shoot mostly coyotes, ground squirrels and prairie dogs.
All the best!

G'day all,
Well I see I am not the only Australian here on this great site. I am having my first 6mmBR put together at the moment. It's going to be a long range varmint rifle in a target stock and I hope to get some competition experience with it too. Hitting a fly at 500 metres has me intrigued!!

I love this site and all the information it has and the distances people are shooting at are very impressive.
I started off in a paddock with an air rifle and my dad at about the age of 7. He later took me to a smallbore club and got me into target shooting. I am now 39. He's gone now but I thank him every day. I have loved rifles all my life.

Cheers.
