Welcome to the Reloading Forum -- Introduce Yourself

Hi All,

FNG checking in,as in friendly new guy):)

I just would like to say what a great site this is, there is sooo much info here, it's really a one stop shop.

I shoot the .243 WSSM and a 6x45 but after looking at some of the data for the 6mmBR, I may be in the market for another 6mm.

I also load for the .223 Rem, 9mm,.45 ACP, .50 Beowulf and 30.06 and I've been doing it for about 30 years. I kind'a thought I knew what it was all about until I started lurking around this site. I know now that I'm just a babe in the woods.
Be gentle with me if you catch me asking some really dumb questions.

Hello everyone. This is William Kosto from West Virginia. I am new to the forum and also pretty much to long-range shooting and reloading. I don't actually have a 6mmbr, but do have a 6.5/284 which I shoot in long-range,500-1000 yd) shoots. I just began doing my own reloading this past couple of months and have became somewhat addicted to it and wanting to improve my accuracy. So I will probably have a lot of rookie questions. Hopefully I will find answers in older posts, but if not, I may repeat some. I look forward to participating.

Hello All;
My name is Barry, BarryO. I have recently moved to Montana and at the ripe old age of 61 have decided to take up Benchrest Shooting. It was an overwhelming undertaking at first, but then I found 6mmBR.com6mmBR.com:D From the home page I noticed all the tabs on the left side of the page. And there it was, "TOP GUNSMITHS". I opened the TAB and to my disbelief there was the listing for John King in Kila, Montana. WOW, that's just down the road a ways. I called John and told him of my impending plans and he invited me to his place to chat. I drove out to visit John and was pleasantly surprised to meet a great guy who is really devoted to his 'smithing' job. An added Bonus was meeting Leo Anderson that day. Leo is also from Kalispell and is also a 6-DASHER shooter. John told me that Leo was the holder of a 'FEW' records in the 1K shooting arena. Anyway, by the time I finished talking with John and Leo that afternoon, my head was buzzing. What a wealth of information; and they gave it freely!! I had so much info that I was working in overload mode. I went home and started to order components. That was back in January and now in mid-April the pieces are starting to arrive. I can't wait to take everything to John so he can work his magic on them.

Thanks to the availability of 6mmBR.com I feel very confident in my choices of equipment. What a great tool for a shooter, new shooter) to have at their disposal. I am a relative new- comer to the site but have already made several donations. I hope all visitors to the site will realize it's importance and make whatever contributions they can.

Thank you again. I look forward to meeting many of you in the future at shoots.

Hello all. I have been "lurking" here for some time now, this site has alot of great info. I finally joined. I have a few rifles that I mainly shoot from a bench, not BR yet, but working on that). I am going to get a new rifle soon and was thinking about getting a "Starter BR" rifle, maybe in 6BR. That way I don't have to fire form and I don't want to neck turn yet,I already load for .243 & .308). I was thinking may a Stolle or Viper with a Shilen bbl, Jewell trigger, but as of yet undecided on the stock. I look forward to learning much and maybe even competing one day, but I do not think there are many places to compete here in S. Georgia. Thanks to all for you advice and experience!

Hello to all here,

I have been surfing the site for several months and contribute on an infrequent basis to the LRH and PLRH forums, where I have been for a few years now.

I am settled in Lancashire in the UK and work in Law Enforcement. I load and shoot 22-250 AI, 25-06, 6.5x284 and am waiting for delivery of a 7mm/300 WSM. All of the rifles are semi or full customs and have tight necks, except the 06) and will hold their own when I do my thing. Whenever I can, I shoot out to 1000 yards at Diggle and not quite that far on my "own" land.

Long range accuracy is my passion.

Nice to be here at last.

Yo !
After a recruiting campaign in my national BR association i have been addicted by the presicion sport BR is.

And i just shoot a factory rifle, but for training it does the job. I'm not good enough yet to get my own custom rig but if i do, i'l get my own 6mmNBR.

It's just so much fun when you see your traing gives some good results. This sport also have elements i can use in other shooting sports.

Hi there! Just found the line up room after posting two messages... I mostly shoot wildcats in .264 and .338, I'm really happy with my unofficial 6.5x47 in a 25.5" Douglas and don't have much to say as I am in awe with the knowledge displayed by some members. It's nice to be on board.

Hello. I am John, in Houston, Texas. I don't shoot benchrest, but I joining to gather the collective wisdom on reloading for accuracy.

I just purchased a used 22 PPC Remington 700 and found that the brass is shorter,1.405 inches) than the brass diagram in the Nosler reloading book,1.505). Can anyone recommend a load to use in the shorter brass?

Hi, how are you folks doing. My name is Harold, I just joined today. I shoot single shot pistols, mainly Encore. Figured I would join just ordered a 6MM Ackley Improved barrel.

Thanks for having me in your group.

Good Shooting

Hi
New to forum but have been reading 6mmbr for about 3 months now. I have a problem that I could use some help with. I have a Sako 75 in 300 ultra that I normally shot 101 grains of retumbo @ 3350-3400 fps, I had a Broughton 5c barrel instaled + action trued, After getting gun back I seated bullets .015 off lands + went back to starting load of 94 grains. Loads showed slight flatening of primers + slow @ 3250fps. As I increase the powder charge .5 grain @ a time bullets travel slower + primers get flatter, very flat @ 96 grains. Tried moving bullets further off lands + about every thing else I can think of + no change. Desperate I went out + bought a box of Remington factory ammo with same bullet 180g. Swift Sirroco. I pulled the bullets + measured powder. 90.4 grains of ?. Turned case necks to .335 in a .339 chamber, seated bullets .015 off lands. Same dies, same everything except powder. Presto 3350-3400fps absolutly no signs of pressure, no flattening of primers. Do I need a faster powder such as RL22? Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

We've found, with some Broughton 5C barrels, you'll need to up the powder compared to other barrels, but you will eventually end up with more velocity.

Running QuickLOAD, it looks like Retumbo is just about the ideal powder for your case, in terms of getting near 100% load density at about 60,000 psi. But there are sometimes significant variations from one lot of Retumbo to another. You might actually try going CLOSER to the lands. Because this increases internal volume a bit, moving towards the lands can actually reduce initial start pressure.

Based on a load of 90.4 grains of the unknown powder, it looks like that load might best be duplicated with IMR 7828sc or Reloader-22. You could also try RL-25, but you'll need a bit heavier charge,2+ grains more).

But before I tried either of those, I would: 1) Try some CCI primers and Remington Primers; and then 2) Try the bullets .005 out from the lands,You may want to try bullets seated into the rifling, about .015" but reduce your load significantly first).

Checked with technical assistance from Sierra, RCBS, Alliant, Hodgdon, + Nosler about the extremely flatened primers with no bullet speed before signing up + posting on this forum. They all missed it except for you. You got it right first call. Went to CCI primers + now shooting 97 grains of Retumbo @ 3375-3400fps with no signs of pressure whatsoever. I guess what fooled me is a have shot 101 grains of that powder, in that case, with that primer, at that speed, in 3 different factory guns, without flatened primers for 8 years.
Help greatly appreciated!
