Varmint scope $250-500

Anyone with any opinions as to the best varmint scopes in the 250-500 price bracket? In particular the nikon prostaff 5, vortex viper, weaver etc. Looking for around a 5-20x40 or so for a 6BR varmint rifle.

If you can live with a fixed power go with a Super Sniper for $300.

The vortex viper does interest me. I have looked through a nikon prostaff 5 and it was nice. My LGS has a couple of the older monarchs there as well for similar money so not sure on the choice out of the two.

Check out on fleabay the Bausch & Lomb 6-24. If you watch you can get them anywhere from $250-400. No offense but they are nicer than any low end Nikon or Super Sniper that I have looked thru. I cannot say about the vortex I have not looked thru any of them. You would not be disappointed with the B&L.

I had one, and it had nice glass, but it had a total of 20 moa of elevation.... which limits the use for long range shooting.

A vortex viper 6-24x50 HS can be found for under $500. A lot of scope for the money.

Nikon has a 6-18 power scope.........Buckmaster / coyote special?????

I had one years back, it had great glass, i shouldn`t have sold it.

They can be had in the $250- $350 price range, also they have both hunting and target turrets that are interchangeable.

^^This^^ I have two of them and for the money,they are hard to beat. Both of mine have the mildot reticle.

Take a look at the Sightron SII 6-24x. Only draw back might be the AO instead of the side adjustment. Comes in duplex, mil dot and .15 target dot. The dot is a little big for target shooting but is excellent for varmints.

Sightron SII and then Vortex my opinion Sir....Your price is on the edge of a SIII 8x32x56 if you do some serious soul searching

Various companies have had the Leupold VX-2 6-18x40 on sale for $449 with free shipping. IMO the best scope for the dollars right now. It is the VX-lll rebranded as the VX-2, in other words what you are getting is Leupold top of the line scope until just recently but at less money than it sold for when it branded as the VX-lll,

In moderately priced scopes, Weaver has always impressed me.

If u need extra elevation, get a MOA base or Burris sign rings.

Interesting comment concerning the Leupold would you care to give some details rather than just making a negative statement. Leupold is known for having the best customer service in the business this is very strange indeed.

I buy used scopes. I love the target model vari x 2 6-18. I have two that I got for $400 each. I also like the Weaver T series, if you are ok with one power. The 24 is a fine scope, good glass and tracks wonderfully. A T-10 is a great find as well...used on my short range varminters with great success.

I have only had one Leupold that was a problem and it was fixed by Leupold for free in 3 weeks.
