USPS money order advice

My concern with pp and their anti gun stance/policies is having your account frozen and having your funds tied up. Yes I still use it, but I don't keep money in the account. Fortunately none of my USPS money orders have been lost in transit so I have been lucky there.

I notice that PP is more than happy to collect fees from eBay folks who sell gun related items like dies, scopes.

I bought an item and seller made an error on his address. Took picture of MO and envelope before I mailed it. Seeker replied he screwed up the address. Took 15 days for it to show back up at my house. Wait another week.
Took post office 30 days to deliver our daughters graduation open house letter to same city that I live in!

View attachment 1115919 As soon as I posted this thread the regional post master called me since I’d left my name and number at the post office. She said he was at the my local post office so I went down and talked to her. She gave me the ps form 6401. She asked how long it had been since it’s been lost I told her it was mailed July 2nd. She said Sorry but they won’t accept the form until 90 days after the money order was issued. So I guess I’m just out the money until the letter turns up or October 2nd when they will start the undoubtably long process of getting me a refund. Does anyone know if this is the legitimate process or if I’m just getting the run around? Any help is appreciated.
Always get tracking.

Damn, these threads get comical ...makes me feel much better about myself . A simple MO question got insane .

OP,good luck . Been there,done that . It's a long process,hoping for good ending.

I will never understand why folks refuse to use PayPal. The buyer pays the fees and the money is in your hands in seconds. Second for me would be a personal check. Money is also transferred swiftly, usually overnight. United States Banking Law states that in large deposits, the first $5,000.00 must be available in the usual time of transferring the money, usually overnight. Take the check to an issuing bank, and get your money immediately.

I am most fortunate, I have never had a problem like the OP and I do most of my purchasing over the net. I use Paypal at lest two to three times a week. Been doing so since it's inception. Sure there are horror stories but think of the hundreds of millions of transactions each day that are faultless.

With PP the buyer pays the fee only if the seller includes it in the price or asks for a larger amount separately if the buyer wishes to use anything other than PPFF. For casual sales I just eat the fee if it becomes a deal breaker. Another option that works well is if buyer and seller agree to split the fee.

I have learned to never us USPS money orders. Huge pain. Post office usually does not have enough money for them, they take to long, Have to wait in line. I am happy to pay PayPal 2% to do it instantly, its worth my time. Personal checks seams to be a good compromise between them.

Think about it this way. The US government is way more interested in taking away your gun rights then PayPal is.

Considering that U.S. government money orders go back to the stagecoach days, the 1870s, I'm surprised they're still being used. Personally, I look forward to the day when paper bills and metal coins are in the history books. Who knows, one could be carrying around Ebola in their wallets or pockets. YMMV.
HP, I carry a stash of Clorox wipes and clean my money. This is after a guy at the bank told me the paper money can have cocaine residue on it. He said for some reason the $20`s are the worst. But Ebola is a scary thought. Thanks for providing something else to worry about. Not a chance in hell of my hair coming back with all this worry. I had same problem earlier this year. Sent an MO to Fairbanks week later I asked did you get it he said no. I went to the PO they said fill this out we will let you know when its cashed. Otherwise I have to wait 90 days to cancel. OK. So I get the fellas number and we talk on the phone. He was selling brass. I said I will send you another one and if the first one comes in double the order. He said ok. The post master said look dont ever send anything important without a tracking number. OK now I sent the second one Certified mail and it got there in 3 days and my first one came in two days later. We joked that we didnt know if the pony express here in WY was better or the sled teams in Fairbanks were.

Bottom line now nothing moves without the tracking portion as you can always see where it is.

I've had bad luck with mail coming out of Alaska. Maybe they're still using dog sleds?

Lesson learned, I won’t ever send another usps mo order with a tracking number. Mailed July 2nd and he still hasn’t recieved it and it hasn’t come come back to me so at this time I’m guessing the pony express rider is done scalped and the Indians used my envelope and usps mo for toilet paper.
