USPS money order advice

Considering that U.S. government money orders go back to the stagecoach days, the 1870s, I'm surprised they're still being used. Personally, I look forward to the day when paper bills and metal coins are in the history books. Who knows, one could be carrying around Ebola in their wallets or pockets. YMMV.

The government would like nothing better than to outlaw cash so that they could track AND TAX every move you make.

No Thanks.

Here's a suggestion that will save you tons of grief esp. if you have a PayPal account.

Put your MO into a small bubble pack envelope along with enough light weight stuffing to make it at least 3/4 of an inch thick in one spot. Next go to www.paypal.com/shipnow where you can buy and print a shipping label and get free tracking. You DON'T need to have a transaction involving PP in order to do this. If nothing else at least you have a way to track the package.
IMO, PayPal is the easiest and safest way to make or receive payment. Other options like checks or money orders are a PITA in multiple ways.

Just what the banksters and their servants the government want. Digital transactions all of which can be traced and controlled. Write something online controversial, get your digital debit/checking account shutdown. Associate with the wrong groups, same result. Wrong religion, wrong political party? Same, same.

Don't even get me started with BitCon-a construct of the NSA, which is an even greater control over the individual, regardless of what they say about the anonymity of the blockchain. It sure didn't help those on Silk Road purchasing drugs on the darkweb.

That's only one side of it. Should the power one day go out-short term or long term-for any of a number of reasons, or if there is another 9/11, or a worse financial crisis than 2008, and the banks are closed and the ATM's don't work, that paper cash and coins will look awfully good in your wallet, regardless of Ebola.

BTW controlling the borders will virtually eliminate the threat of Ebola, as would stopping all traffic or individuals coming from that part of the world. Will it happen? Doubtful, and when Ebola does arrive, it won't be cash or coins that will give it to you. When there are more than 12 cases in this country, it's over, as that is all the BH-IV containment units that are available in the US.

Regardless of what the conspiracy theorists proffer, digital money is already here. Try and buy an airline ticket, a car rental, a hotel reservation, cell or landline, TV cable or satellite or sell on an online site. On the web, even public sites, you're naked to the world. Unless one stashes cash in the backyard hole in the ground the government already knows everything there is to know about everyone. Think cash is king in a post apocolyptic world? The government will invalidate it's worth and issue no bills the same way they did with gold and silver. Turn it in or burn it, your call. Privacy is long gone and cash isn't far behind.

Edit: Five guys in New York City control ALL the money in the U.S. It's called the Federal Open Market Committee. They determine what that green paper we have is worth.

No conspiracy here, just facts. Just because it is sometimes difficult to utilize cash, doesn't mean it is obsolete. All of the things that I cited have happened, and are not "conspiracies". Any disruption in the electrical grid or the financial system will bring it to the fore yet again. Hurricanes, ice storms with lots of tree damage, or a freeze in the financial system due to lack of liquidity a la 2008, are things that have happened and will again. Not being able to access digital payment systems because of any of these reasons is a very good reason to hold cash.

Seems like the sky might be falling. What’s your plan and experience with Ebola?

Distance. Self quarantine. I live in a rural area, so it isn't that difficult to do should it be necessary.

We were very, very, lucky in 2014 that it was contained, especially the way in which those exposed to the virus were allowed to wander about the country.

This time around we have already allowed over 500 illegals from Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Congo to cross the southern border, and be released into the country, namely into San Antonio, TX and Portland, ME. I am very sure that there will be more coming, given the current state of chaos regarding all things migrant in the Federal Government.

This is no joke, as the Border Patrol and TSA are trained to look for fever as one of the primary symptoms of Ebola, as it was in the 2014 outbreak. In this outbreak, there is no fever until ten days to two weeks after contraction of the virus. That means that unless the quarantine is for at least four weeks, you will not be sure whether the person is infected. There is an 80%+ mortality rate with this strain, and even if you survive, you will suffer permanent internal organ damage and have a good shot at being blind. Not pretty stuff at all.

Edited to add, the WHO has just declared this outbreak of Ebola as an international emergency, due to a case in Goma, DRC, which has an international airport.

The odds of anything like that happening AND affecting the entire country are probably a trillion to one. Fortunately we have smarter people doing the worrying. Me, I'm in Alfred E. Neuman's camp.:D

A person can carry the virus and have zero symptoms and not have it show up in a blood test. It will live in fluid in the eyeball. There was a doctor in Africa who worked on a patient's eyes and was infected. He later died. Some pretty scary stuff.

I am much more concerned about the availability of Bart’s Bullets. After your 34 post, my thought is if if you are going to shoot CF focus on accuracy.

I prefer not to even take a postal money order now when selling. I just rather they send me a personal check as its faster and can be canceled quickly if need be. My personal bank will not even cash a postal money order anymore without a 10 day hold, hell my post office wont even cash em. I'm now sending bank cashiers checks for payment of items since they cost me nothing at my bank and will process out in about 3 days max and can be stopped or canceled if lost.

My concern with pp and their anti gun stance/policies is having your account frozen and having your funds tied up. Yes I still use it, but I don't keep money in the account. Fortunately none of my USPS money orders have been lost in transit so I have been lucky there.
