Distance. Self quarantine. I live in a rural area, so it isn't that difficult to do should it be necessary.
We were very, very, lucky in 2014 that it was contained, especially the way in which those exposed to the virus were allowed to wander about the country.
This time around we have already allowed over 500 illegals from Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Congo to cross the southern border, and be released into the country, namely into San Antonio, TX and Portland, ME. I am very sure that there will be more coming, given the current state of chaos regarding all things migrant in the Federal Government.
This is no joke, as the Border Patrol and TSA are trained to look for fever as one of the primary symptoms of Ebola, as it was in the 2014 outbreak. In this outbreak, there is no fever until ten days to two weeks after contraction of the virus. That means that unless the quarantine is for at least four weeks, you will not be sure whether the person is infected. There is an 80%+ mortality rate with this strain, and even if you survive, you will suffer permanent internal organ damage and have a good shot at being blind. Not pretty stuff at all.
Edited to add, the WHO has just declared this outbreak of Ebola as an international emergency, due to a case in Goma, DRC, which has an international airport.
