USPS Delivery Issues and Delays

I have always championed the USPS, and still will do that. My first real problem is a rest top sent to Jeykll Island, Ga. As you can see it is traveling all over and back and forth. Myself, customer and 3 good Postmasters have worn out consumer affairs to no avail. 2 weeks ago they charged my credit card $26 for an intercept. Supposed to come straight back to me, well it ain't made it.
My customer is an 'ell of a nice guy and isn't pushing it or asking for me to refund his money as I volunteered to do. I won't have additional parts until the end of next week, so can't send him another to him at this time.

wow i thought some of mine were bad but nothing like this. im in the midwest and if i send things a few states away i havent had a problem. when i send something to the west coast though theres a good chqnce of one. the other day i forgot to put a stamp on a letter i sent. instead of finding it in my box the next day it got there in a week with no postage stamped on it. i wonder how far it went.

3 years ago it took post office 3 months to deliver our daughters high school graduation announcement to a friends house four miles away. Thought it was strange they didn’t come and then Barb called me saying post office just delivered the letter. 3 months later

Butch,

I've been having some real problems with the USPS lately also. My problem is Priority Mail flat rate boxes being ripped open contents removed then sent on an empty box. Theft maybe, rough handling you bet. So you file a claim after the thirty days wait and you may get the cost of the item but the cost of the flat rate shipping you get to eat.

Danny

With USPS, you never know. Last Saturday morning I went to the Post Office and used the "package machine" to ship a Priority Mail box to Farmington, MN. Didn't know the mail went out that early.Got there and was delivered Monday afternoon. Too bad every delivery wasn't like that.
Just shipped a package this evening thru the "machine" headed to New York. Suppose to be there May 14. We'll see.;)

I purchased a Barrel from a shooter in South Carolina It took 4 days to go to a BMC in North Carolina 150 miles up the road, then Tracking said it was in route to its Destination everyday it said the same thing when you looked at Tracking info for like 2 weeks ! The seller refunded my Money. So I decided to fill out a APB Thur USPS Web site I had to create and account lots of info to fill out but got it done ! A Week later it showed up that it made it to Kansas City Then a few days later it said it was on its way to its destination, that went on for 4 days, Finally received it almost a month later, when I picked it up the man who shipped it used snail mail and never put his return address on the mailling tube and it was only $1.50 cheaper than priority mail never never shipp anything of any value regular mail ! its almost certain to get broken or loss and it's not much cheaper and twice as long to get it ! This is the funny part, for a month after I received my Barrel I kept getting e-mails from Uncle Sam saying they were investigating the lost Barrel whereabouts they may still be looking for it but the e-mails stoped after about of month of Getting 1a week !

If you ship or receive packages, things are gonna get 'lost'.
It ain't a question of 'if', it's just a matter of 'when' and 'for how long'.

out of all the custom fishing rods i've bought over the years (one of my fetishes) they were all shipped in pvc tubes with caps, shipped fully insured- some tips broken but never a claim paid a single time. luckily my rod builders have made it right every time but I hate that USPS has never paid a claim no matter what we do.

I sell a lot through Ebay and forums and one thing I always do is enter the shipping address in USPS zip check page and get the exact formatting they use for routing stuff. Many times the address I'm given has the format changed by the USPS website. I think I've only had one package that went for a little extra side trip to a distribution center and back. Knock on wood...

I received a letter for someone else in my PO Box. I wrote in big letters across the front "Not For PO Box 1234" and put back in the out going mail. For 3 days we played this game and every day it was back in my mail box. On the 4th day, I delivered it to the postmaster and explained the problem. She initialed the letter and the 5th day it was back in my mailbox.
I hope there wasn't anything important in the letter. It got lost before I left the post office.

I use the USPS website and make up the labels online for priority mail. I don't do it all the time but I'm going to start affixing another handmade label for the other side of the boxes. At least if someone can read English, it would help if the label gets unreadable.

Tape it up good. Then put some more tape on it. Once it has enough tape on it, put another layer. If it is heavy, add another layer. --jerry

I had a package that said was delivered at my house and it WAS NOT here. Contacted the seller and he said it was delivered according to tracking. Left a note for mailman stating I did not get the package. They replied with a printed Google map view of my house saying they delivered to my address. Total BS...never did get it and had to go round and round to get my money back. USPS could care less and majority of employees share same work ethic.

Got an email notice that a package was delivered to mt house. It wasn't!! Stopped by the PO and showed the notice to the lady. About an hour later, the delivery driver dropped the package off at my house on his way home. Seems like he put it in the wrong mail box. We've had days where we didn't get mail delivery. The driver didn't bother to come to work.

You could of walked there and back, I feel some sort of answer should be given. One thing I hear about the USPS is things like this usually drag out forever before they just tell you it's not their problem..

USPS (and all shippers) get 99.999% of them right. We hear about the .0001%. 6 sigma is a way of life.

The good news is that with modern mechanized barcoded tracking, absent a plane crash or fiery truck accident, they don't usually lose it. I had an ebay business and shipped well over 10,000 items USPS and some were quite late but they never lost a one. Last week I had a package take 2 weeks + to get from So Cal to Phoenix. But it didn't get lost.

Given that these are government employees with the associated morale and productivity issues, I think we should be pretty happy with their performance.

The exception I have noted, as a shippee rather than a shipper, is poor packaging. Tape, tape, more tape. Use barcoded address labels. Don't pay for insurance. It is overpriced--driven by fraud and those who poorly package.

True. I got a package from about 75 miles away. It took 6 days from the date the post office picked it up. Figure walking 3 mph for only 8 hours a day and I could have made the round trip on foot in the same time. Seems like about 10% of the time, things like this happen. I've always received my deliveries sooner or later. If I order anything important, I'll pay extra for FedEx or UPS. With any delivery service, I always watch my tracking to be sure it's actually delivered to me when they say it was.

At times UPS isn't much better. A few years ago I purchased a quite expensive fly rod, ($400) for me anyway. After 2 weeks of waiting I finally made an inquiry. UPS tracking showed it got to the delivery station and then it simply, went "poof". Never got it.

I don't know what's worse...this, or trying to file a claim on a rifle part that was lost in transit after the package was damaged in their possession. After the extensive song and dances and let's not leave out the numerous hoops you must jump through, I gave up on the claim.
