UPDATE: New Bergara .243 win. = Junk?

I just picked up a new bergara in 243 win from MidwayUSA. Shot one round through it am knew something was wrong. Pulled out the brass and there was a bulge around the entire lower neck. Put the camera in the barrel and it looks like they milled a groove around the entire chamber. The throat/rifling looks terrible as well. Called midway and they basically said too bad and offered me bergara’s phone number. Pretty disappointed in midway as I’ve spent about 10k with them in the last month.

Not sure what the best path forward is right now. Not sure I even want to bother with sending it to bergara.

Needless to say, very disappointed

I don't see a problem here. All my cases look like that !

maybe only a few .... well, actually none of them. Never mind

So Midway said the rifle can't be returned, since you took it from FFL location. That makes it a used firearm. Sounds like if you would/could have refused to accept it and it would have been returnable (probably a restock fee). That seems legit and since you took it and fired it(used for sure now ), you now need to deal with the manufacturer for their manufacturing defect(as it became a warranty issue, used item).

I'm confused as to why anyone is upset with MidWay. They had nothing to do with the manufacture of the rifle. They do not offer Bergara factory service. If they chose to get involved it would only unnecessarily complicate the return/repair process because they'd have to ship it to Bergara after receiving it from the owner, then receive it a second time and then send it to the owner.
It's not like a car dealership with a factory certified repair center on the side of the sales floor. And I'd bet the OP chose his own words to describe his reaction to the reply he received from MidWay.
I get that the OP is upset that a new rifle has such a problem. But I don't get blaming MidWay.
Perhaps if you'd bought locally from a small shop and delivered it back to them after discovering a problem they *might* ship it back for you. Odds are you'd paid more for it to begin with as well. So there's that also.

Begara does produce some stinkers and they do not always leave happy customers in their wake. I am currently in possession of my brothers 6.5. I need to hit the range and see if reloads can make it into something factory ammo could not. The bolt shroud failed and has been replaced, yet accuracy has not impressed. They sent it back with a 3 shot group barely below MOA and patted themselves on the back. I am going to play with skim bedding and see if Berger and Lapua can dig it out of this hole. Meanwhile, My cheapo Savage barreled action (Bass Pro Shop $300 special) in a discount chassis stock can beat it. My brother started shooting custom instead and past it on to me to see if I can salvage it.

I really want one of their 22lr but my faith has been broken.

Daylate was a reason given? I had noticed lots of changes in the last couple of years. Reduced hours, way less customer service, higher prices, and shipping seemed to be slower than before. The only thing that Larry did that kinda bothered me was he seemed to be oblivious to how Wayne was running the NRA and looked to be enabling it.
No not sure of exact reason. But I think business was down…Matt had come from a farm supply chain. Should of happened along time ago in my opinion . Which is worth what you paid for it..

Great thread! I have never owned a Bergara but have several friends who have owned them in the past. The reason I mentioned "past" is that they all got rid of them for various reasons. Mostly they just wouldn't shoot. I have owned one Spanish gun in my life. But it was a nice, sweet 20 gauge double. The only problem was that you had to shoot it with the action open. It was quite a challenge to bring it to your shoulder, aim at the bird, and close the action at the same time. When you closed the action both barrels would fire. After several trips to local reputable gunsmiths they all told me to remove the firing pins and hang it over the fireplace. I'll take a Turkish gun over a Spanish gun any day. ;) :D

One of my best friends was bird hunting with his dad on opening day, dad dropped 2 and he picked one up and his son was getting the other as dad walked up and slid 2 fresh shells in his Winchester as he closed it both barrels went off and hit the ground right next to his son. Troy jumps back and yells "what did I do daddy?' Dad was white as a ghost.

That sounds like a piss poor fix from your local reputable gunsmith!
He should haved offered to fix the trigger/sear?

99% of the gunshops that don't have an in store gunsmith, and a heck of a pile of other types of stores, will tell you to return a faulty gun/product to the mfgr, once a gunshop that has a gunsmith looks at it for you, does, which is purely a courtesy, they'll likely tell you to deal with the mfgr as well, unless it has not been shot, in which case it can be processed as new defective, and their mfgr's rep can take care of it--at minimal cost to them, other than a held up sale, and some non-saleable inventory in the back room, waiting for reps to take it and replace it or credit it. Handling, freight expense, tracking progress & payment, warranty with multiple vendors, is not a small job, it can easily require someone, or two or three people, to do it full time, interferes with customer service and shipping, it's something that costs them money to operate, with very little return other than a supposedly happy customer, it can also piss off as many as it "helps".

Kinda forgot about this but got the rifle back bergara after about 2 months. They “polished” the chamber and said it was fine. Put a camera down it and it looked like crap. Took it out to shoot and it would do about a dinner plate moa with multiple different loads.

So ended up ordering a new barrel from the urban Rifleman as the action seems nice.

I’m still in left field after seeing your picture of the case neck in post #1.

You’re going to have a much better rifle now!

I do wonder sometimes at people's concepts of what warranty is and how it works.
Shame that it is required, but, it really isn't all that difficult to comprehend. Better off to deal with the mfgr, the guy at the store doesn't usually know what the vendor's warranties are, and isn't authorized to speak for the manufacturer anyway. It costs money to process warranty, there is time away from the counter and phones involved, or the need for a full time employee(s) to be dedicated to processing it.
