Unbendable cleaning rod do they exist?

It is doubtful that there is such a thing as an "unbendable" cleaning rod. However, Tipton makes graphite rods that an nearly indestructible and would take a SUBSTANTIAL bend to break it. However, if it does not reach the breaking point, it will immediately straighten itself out. The only problem, if you want to label it a problem, is as far as I can determine, they only go to 44" and no longer. A nice 50" would be great, however, I don't believe Tipton makes them that long..

Bore tech makes cleaning rods up to 60"

Then click on the arrow in the select box for length

Foul up the crown, stick it in the rifling, as it is no longer concentric. I am a welder I've seen shafts in places where they were got bent then straightened and never fit again! It depends on how close the fit was to begin with, some are loose some are snug my rod for my .308 is .250" a bend in that of much and it is a big darn problem if you see my point if it was my rod in a 50 BMG it's a different point of view. But I still would be against it for principle!

For my BR 22's I use 2 rods. One is a polished Ivy and if you are not ham fisted a quality product. The second is the Cadillac of rods. Jerry Stiller made a run of very rigid rods that are also melonited don't know if
any are left for folks dying to spend $175 on acleaning rod.........they are nice and come in a metal tube.

Place the the cleaning rod in an arrow straightener, push out the crown, and you once again have a straight cleaning rod. In fact, it will probably result in a straighter cleaning rod than you originally had;) Your local Archery Pro Shop would be happy to do that for you.

I ordered two Tipton 44" carbon fiber cleaning rods through Amazon. When they arrived the box contained four 22" rods.

C'mon man:D What does an arrow shaft do once it leaves the string? Does archers paradox ring a bell?
It suredoes. And has for ever But with carbon they dont bend like aluminum does don't .
I worked as for a archer shop and shot for Hoyt . Carbon Lasted till the spine went away but never bent . Larry

Be aware of Tiptons ordering online as opposed to first hand inspection.
They are nice rods, BUT, they often have horribly misaligned ferrules and that can kill a barrel pretty quick, you want a nice, seamless joint.

Be sure to do the same with your bore guides:eek:

I've done my share of fly fishing, and own some nice carbon fiber rods. They're amazing but as fragile as Christmas tree bulbs if abused. By "abused" I mean one tiny nick in the outer skin and it can go all to hell in a big hurry the next time it's flexed. And I know for a fact one won't break your fall if you stumble climbing over streamside boulders.

Presuming we are talking about a piece of steel, my experience has been that it is exceedingly difficult to get it completely straight once bent.

Now, we could argue at length about what 'bent' really means, but I presume that since the OP stated he stepped on the cleaning rod as it rested upon his bench, 'kinked' *might* be a more accurate condition.

It only takes a slight deflection of a relatively tight-fitting rod to contact the side of a barrel bore and cause continual contact, and resulting abrasion. Consider what a 'kink' in a cleaning rod could do. Unless it is possible to MEASURE and determine that the rod is, in fact, straight to acceptable tolerance, (I'll let you all determine what that means to you), then just chuck it in the scrap pile and buy another cleaning rod.

Some things ain't worth the risk to me. A kink in a cleaning rod is pretty high on my list.

YMMV.

Tipton make a 50" Carbon Fiber for 27-45 Cal and a 62" for 50BMG among other caliber and lengths http://www.btibrands.com/product/deluxe-1-piece-carbon-fiber-cleaning-rod/

You're comparing apples to grapes.

I have 50" IVY rods like I love. I have a CF tipton rod I dont use. It is warped and rubs the bore plus its more abrasive then a polished rod. Coated rods are fine until they get a lot of use, then they do get stuff embedded. Especially if you use jb often. I use them a lot so, is uncoated steel for me.
