This discussion brings back memories of the early reloading years and the costs. I still have about one half of a gallon paint can of H4831 which my sportsman club distributed in the late 1950's. It was surplus powder. The powder looks as fresh as the day it was sealed in the can. Almost 60 years old and no red rust color. We also used alot of military Ball C 1. in the .222's both for hunting and target. Really "cheap powder" compared to today's prices and performed very well. I still have some 55gr. Sierra, .224 bullets which were $2.69 a box in 1967. Target shooting was expensive in the 1950 early 1960 years which started more shooters to reload to save money. Herters, Krupp, Wells, Belding & Mull and others produced reasonable priced products.you just have to compete in the vintage component class
