Two more BRXs

My buddy and I just built matching BRX repeaters(26" bruxs, 1-8 and 1-7.5) with rem700s bedded in the new magpul hunter stock. Mine is the 1-8.

Tested Varget from 32.2 up to 33.1 in a breezy 35 degrees. They shoot very very nice. Thanks to all of you for your guidance.

At first glance, there appears to be a huge difference in speed between the two. His 7.5 is running 108s at 2990ish with the same load as I only get 2913ish.

We are running very different lots of powder...mine new, his quite old. We were running different magneto speeds. Next test opportunity we are going to switch a few things around. For now we are smiling at the crazy accuracy of these two guns.

I know....it aint no good without pics...maybe a little latter....LOL

Again, thank you all for the knowledge you impart on us every day.

I love the BRX, a very confidence inspiring round. Both mine only run around 2920 with either Varget or RL15 and 107's. Give it 200-300 rounds and they may or may not speed up. Even at 2920 they're still magic to shoot.

loving my 6BRX , mine is running bang on 3000fps with 105gr hybrids and 32.4gr of 2208/varget in a 30 inch 1:7.5 twist krieger ..cant wait for ya pics

I finally got some pics. Hoping to get out again tomorrow. We wanted to build a couple of steel match rifles to also use for the occasional tacticool match.... not very fancy, but should be fun. They feed really well with the pmags(slightly modified). Its kinda weird to be playing with so much plastic and have it all work so well. So far its a cool system.

The target shows some of the first rounds through my barrel with hydro formed brass. I was shooting five and cleaning five. Im not sure why the clean bore rounds were so far out of the main group. Maybe cold too?

I am pretty excited about this project. Just scratching the surface.

The spacer was whittled from a chunk of plastic off a snowmobile. It was a crude test, but seems to do the trick. I cut the follower, and trimmed a few spots to seat the spring appropriately on the plastic undersides on each end... easy..peasy

The rifle looks real nice but I think I like the bench better

Bench envy is a tough thing to treat, but we are all here to help. I know you have an identical rifle...let get some of your testing info, mister!

(for the rest of you, Elvin has the 7.5 twist mate to mine....hence the lip service)

You guys shoot any Varmint Silhouette at Palomino? I'll be up next month for the first shoot of the year. BRX's would be perfect for that match.

Funny you mention that. Yes we shoot it often. Hoping to have them somewhat dialed by then. If the weather cooperates??? Don't need a repeater for that game, but why not build it for other games, too.

Well as of Sunday I am getting 3005 fps with 33.0 gr. Varget berger 108 bt and 2940 with cfe 223 same bullet

I am in the middle of a 6BRX project found the right load but I don't like what some of my primers look like, I will be able to figure that out next time I shoot it but for now I shot 5 shot group 200 yards at .502 of an inch =.239 MOA so just under 1/4 MOA, Savage Target action krieger 1/8 twist .272 nck 29 inches long

Fine looking rifle. The Mag-Pul Hunter stock is a great choice if value for $$$ is part of the build equation. I have my 700 in 308 Win in one. The detachable mag system is amazing.
Some fine looking groups you have there. Slow(er) velocity may just be a part of break-in.

Good Luck!

Rich

Hey fm1947 that's some nice shooting what was your load? I just finished a 6 brx ,still playing with different loads,my buddy and I went to the range today with the chill factor it had to be at 25 degrees f. His brx really liked MR2000 35 to 36.5 gave around 3030fps behind a berger 108 ! I ran 33.0 of varget, 108 berger @ the lands for 2985fps I have a match in Las Vegas this weekend so I will just run this for now ,I had nine rounds left so I put them on my last target for the day

The 2000mr got some very good(for me) speed. The accuracy is better than I shoot. I kept getting exited about the groups as they formed and seemed always pull one.

The crazy thing was the point of impact was virtually the same over a 1.5 grain spread. I was shooting 108s off a bipod on the bench.

I shot some Varget loads yesterday and it appears that hybrids work better than 108s in my barrel. Still no match for the speed today, plus nowhere near as wide a node.

I think this round is really winning my heart.

Elvin I'm using Berger 105 BT and 33.8 Varget, and I'm .020 into the lands, that was a great 9 shot group, I'm hoping next time out I get the same results, it's gotten a little to chilly right now, while developing loads It shot even better at 35.2 but one blew primer out and next cracked case above the shoulder, so that wasn't very good, I'm still having some pressure issues at 33.8, as far as I can see I may be to deep in lands, I use the Sinclair tool but not sure just how accurate it is.

Nice tony, I'm going to try some mr200

Thanks, Im excited. I should just stop right here, but:
I want to pursue the hybrid\varget combo. Also interested in 4350, as it appears this barrel might like slower powders. I have yet to get any appreciable pressure signs. The varget loads have some slightly flatter primers. Of course, we'll see how this story goes in 90 degree heat, too.

As soon as we get rid of some snow and mud, we can start seeing what we have at distance.

I am at a loss as to something I observed. The hybrids with the same varget load, same day, same .015 jump were 40 fps faster than the 108s. SD was better too. 8 vs 12. They were slightly more accurate, too.
