Traveling out west to Montana?

For those who don't know it Montana doesn't have sales tax ! Yep people come here from Wyoming, Idaho, Canada all the time and buy tires for their rig or cloth's, or a gun and new scope cause no sales tax. As soon as you cross the Canada border everything goes up way up so they just come here buy 4 new tires and what they save is huge amounts of money. Happens everyday here. So if you want a new scope and you call ahead and order it and pick it up when your passing threw. I bought 2 new cars in the past 15 years huge saving no sales tax like back in Pa. I've seen people in Billings come to Montana from Wyoming with a flat bed trailer and a big deep freeze fill it with food and on the back of the trailer have it stacked with new tractor parts or what ever what they saved more than pays for the trip one guy told me. Wise move if your coming here this fall.

Yes, I know people when building their house, they make a run over the hill to load up on building materials. The vehicle tax will get you when you register it.

Same thing in Oregone. NO sales Tax.........
Weekend more Washington Cars and Trucks.

Vehicle tax....yessir, a bummer when registering BUT not a sales tax AFAIK.
Maybe never having been registered before is the sticky wicket there?

Yeah, but what’s thier income tax?
Is this accurate?

…so if you live in Montana, they take 5.9% of ALL your income.
This is why I moved to Texas. “Tax free” Delaware was taking 6% of our income and I’m surrounded by Woke people.

Have always wondered if we're better off in WA with no state income tax just sales tax on everything but food. Doesn't matter, not moving anywhere else anyway.

I'd visit up there just for the fishing. :) I tend to stay in the AZ, NM, CO, UT areas just cause it isn't that much of a drive.

Taxes? Yep, they suck everywhere, but, NM isn't too bad. The govt sucks off the natural gas/oil/weed revenues to get a lot of their money.

Yeah but Texas makes it up in other taxs. I.E sales tax 9% toll roads, property tax.
Hell I see Texas plates all over Montana now.

Oh, the tax folk are everywhere and the keep taking more. Nobody escapes it. I don’t buy much so the Sales tax has a minimal affect on me. The income chunk is a lot more.

Your gonna pay double the property tax in Texas for the equal value of homes versus Montana no getting out of that
I tried to buy a used truck in Texas thinking I would get out of paying the sales tax like I can in Idaho, N D and Wash.
Nope Texas law you pay it no matter what.

Sadly I just have just about been priced out of my usual two week stay up your way. It’s amazing that a rental has tripled in price over the past several years.
The reason for that is all the influx of people in the last 4 or 5 years, you wanna stay were all the touristy people wanna be then your gonna pay its simple as that.

Our daughter tried to talk my wife and I to retire in Texas, after I did my research on Texas Taxs vrs Montana even with the state tax there was no way it made more sense to move to Texas because of taxs, maybe if your in a higher taxed state it does.
My daughters had a toll tax sticker on her car when lived in DFW here bill was 300.00 a month.

I’ll put it this way. I’ve been in Texas for 6 years. In 4 more years, my Texas house will be “paid off” with the saving of not paying the Delaware income tax.
Oh, and Delaware just reassessed the property taxes. I’m paying about the same in Real Estate taxes in both states, now.

In Iowa the tax is based on the purchase price. No matter what state it came from. This is what I learned in 1992 on a purchase in South Dakota.
