Time to get out of Dodge!

The Western Slope of Colorado is holding out fairly well from the Front Range madness. There is a private airport outside Delta CO with home and hanger sites for sale. Lots of public land to get lost in. The hunting is good IF you go 2 miles from the road and get away from the road hunters. There is mandatory back ground checks for gun purchases but it only takes about 20 minutes and most FFL holders only charge about $25. My buddy does mine for free. Good private rural land ain't cheep, however.

It's so maddening that whole states get screwed up by 2-3 counties. Then the whole state gets to pay for infrastructure for those areas and the other counties have no voice!

The only down side of the state controlling public land is they soon find a way to get it out into fee status and then he race is on and the traffic and eyesore ensues. I am reminded of the Park City, Utah area where the great little towns in the area have been chewed up to the point you gotta deal with the same traffic those folks were leaving when they moved there

Utah is a good example of how politicians (Mike Lee and others) want states to take control of public (federal) land and sell it to the highest bidder. It has already happened in various states including mine (Wisconsin). It's been written up in various outdoor magazines. Lee states that the only people who use federal lands (parks and national forests) are elitists. I used to hunt in the Bighorns with my buddies, and were are not elitists. Barlow

Very true. My buddy is a consultant for several counties who are giving input into the public land issue. I oppose the counties getting most of it and screwing it up. There is some just above me that used to be Forest and BOR reserve because there is a reservoir there. Now there are homesites and utilities being plowed in. I try not to be a tree hugger but not every place needs to be populated.

Lets face it, government, in this case the Democratic (Socialist) party is no different than an organized crime syndicate. They are money hungry and will do everything possible to shear their flocks of everything they have. Washington State and California are both prime examples of this. They want to pull as much money as possible out of our pockets and disperse enough to the masses to make them dependent on them for life's basic needs. The sheep they are shearing are the middle class, eventually everyone will be dependent on them. Like a drug dealer and his addicts.
This is a process of socialism, we have seen this throughout history. Most recently Venezuela. We have also seen how this cannot sustain itself. The people will eventually loose all this subsidy and will live in poverty. The final scene in this tragedy, is that the only people that have anything is the high ranking government officials. The pawns in this are those that think they will get something for free and work to implement socialism for their own gain, only to wind up with nothing.

That is just unbelievable! Millions of people visit national parks, wilderness areas, and national forests every year. Living in Colorado, you almost can't spit without hitting some sort of protected forest and I'm ok with that. It stops the growing plague of developers from destroying the very land that people claim to be moving here to enjoy. Minute you give it to the states, they see $$$ and start selling it off. At least the feds are so hopelessly bureaucratic it takes decades for federal land to be sold or re-classified.

Let me add another perspective . And this applies mostly to my Senior friends who have moved to very different Climates . I happen to live in the North East and enjoy four Seasons and tend to Hibernate in the Winter . Can't Hunt much anymore , but do enjoy informal Target Shooting and Fishing the many local Trout Streams . When I was physically able , I used to make Fishing and Hunting Trips all over the US and a few to Canada . Always talked to a lot of people and many told me that there is something which pulls you back to the Area where you were born ( not necessarily the City but the general Area ). I toured the US many times and seriously thought about moving .... maybe S. Dakota or Wyoming or Montana . However , due to personal considerations , that never happened . Now circumstances prevent a move . In the last few years , I have had several best friends move to warmer Climates for Health reasons . Maybe it's a co-incidence , or maybe it's just because of old age , but they did not last long . One lasted a year and the other ( who I thought was the healthiest Senior I knew and who was still Consulting in early 2018 ) , lasted about three months . Darn wife never even called to tell me that he had passed away . Moral is : if you are seriously considering a big change in Location / Climate , do it while you are in good enough shape to accomplish it .
