Tips for the 1st timer @ FCN or SWN

Lots of great info here. My suggestion to a shooter going to either match, especially if you are new shooter, is to be proficient in the art of pulling and scoring targets and scorekeeping on the line. Matt Schwartzkopf should give lessons on how to pull and score a target properly. Don't be the guy nobody wants to shoot with because your pit service sucks.

When scoring, pay attention. Call each shot and score loud enough for your shooter to hear. Remember some of us more experienced shooters tend to be 3/4 deaf. You can talk to your shooter during sighters, if he's not on target help him get there.

Either of these two matches will probably be decided by a point or even X's. You very well could be on the same target as the new National Champion. Don't be the reason he or she isn't.

This will be my first time at Ben Avery, so I have a question regarding transportation to and from the pits. Will there be a trolly that takes us down and back like at Camp Perry or do we drive down ourselves?

I just ran some numbers assuming "reasonable" sighter counts of 5-10 rounds for mid-range and 10 rounds for unlimited sighter periods for LR and I got the following rounds count needed for Nationals:

Mid-Range Nationals: 212 rounds
Mid-Range w/ Team match: 256 rounds

Long Range Nationals: 192 rounds
Long Range w/ Team match & 30 rounds for practice day: 266 rounds

Looks like I need to start prepping brass now. LOL. Didn't realize how many rounds it was.

You can't have too much ammo ( Larry Bartholome said this before the last world match) and that's good advice if you switch over to your backup rifle.
Larry's advice comes from the 1st FCWC in Canada where there were 36 shooters in a shoot off at 700m, from memory Larry won and only had fire 66 rounds :o :o :P, more than he fired in the whole days competition !!!!!

If you guys/gals have not tried it, try AirBnB as an alternate to a hotel. We got a screaming good deal on a room.

People might even consider renting a whole house and a bunch of shooters splitting the costs.

I am going to miss you guys this year! You might want to bring down more than one load like Biggs does. Just make sure to have fun and don't worry about anyone else. Leave your ego at home. Try to learn something. If its your first time on a big western range, you need to realize you can see the wind coming long before you need to react to it depending on where you are on the line. Just make sure to have fun.

Tent Camping there at the range is not for the girly man but they have restrooms and showers, cheap and you wake up there.

I am in it for the experience, the comradery, and because I plain and simply, like to shoot.

I can't wait.

This stuff is were the rubber meets the road, everyone will be in that mode, do the same. If your going to compete then compete.

How many individual rounds for score are there if you include the mid range championships? Just trying to figure out how much I need to load.

I figure about 400 rounds if you use the same caliber.

I would bring around 200-210 for mid-range and 190-200 for long range; more if you are shooting the team matches

Looking at last years schedule the midrange match was only a 3x20 shot match. Curious as to why 200 rounds for the midrange portion?

On bergers website it shows last yeas schedule. For wednesday it showed 3x20 @ 600yds. Am I missing something? This is in reference to the Berger SWN, btw.

Last year the midrange nationals were held at Camp Perry. If your seeing a 3x20, that would have been the Berger match.

I'm not talking about the f class nations, I'm talking about the berger southwest nationals. That must be where the confusion and disconnect is.

Nationals are Oct / Nov. Berger SWN is Feb 2016. There is a one day 600 yd match at Berger SWN. Both mid range nationals and long range nationals are back to back at Ben Avery this year in Oct / Nov.
