Tikka T3x Varmint .223 load development

The 223 comp gun runs 80 vld and 25 grn varget and ccibr4 running 2950fps

Won a few local comps in F class, Feild class and f open class. With a off the shelf tikka T3 Varmint, topped off with a Weaver t36

The 80s are seated long. I can mag feed from a cdi DBM and AI mag. The standard mag tikka came out with just had to modify it to fee longer rounds.

Myself, a Tikka owner faced with over length 308 loads I believe I’ll order a long action bolt stop and long action magazine.

It should work fine. I've seen posts where guys did the swap. I damn near, and should of bought a 7-08 setup that way. Also... I'm not sure if they use a different , or the std L/A bolt stop, but the 6.5 CM Tikka's come with the extended M+ magazines. They're more generous than the std M mag used for 22/250-260 are. My 6.5 mag measures about 2.975 inside, and my handloads are 2.890. Lastly, I believe the M+ mags are available in a 5 shot version now as well.

I've had really good luck with the 53 V-max over IMR3031. Shoots clean and very accurate. 4 inch clays at 500 yds are no challenge with this load out of a 9 twist factory Savage 223. The excellent BC of the bullet makes it both flat shooting and handle the wind well too.

Also the Speer 50 & 55 gr spitzer's are less than $10 a hundred. If they'll shoot out of your rifle 100 - 200 yards great for rodents and cost effective... Win 748 27 gr & 50 gr Speer & cci primer worked - but the barrel was a slower twist than yours.

Thanks Skippy, sounds like you go through .223 ammo like a few mates I know on your island go through VB or 4X.

My MDT mags measure 2.554", what's the OAL of those long seat 80's?
