I just used the ThorroClean on a 223 30" T/R barrel. It took a lot to get the carbon out of the bore.
I used the Iosso brush also. I ended up going back to my JB paste/Kroil to get the barrel down to bare steel after about 100 strokes combined 3 cleaning steps using ThorroClean.
Not so impressed with the ThorroClean yet. TBD if I am a proponent.
I had used C4 before this and the dry patches were coming out clean before bore scoping the layer of carbon.
Sadley I did not have the chrono last Saturday when I fired it again. I ran 6 rounds through it using a 1/2" dot for fowler shots it seemed to settle after 4 shots.
The subsequent group of 20 was a 1/2" hole of 17 shots with 1 low ten and two high tens all on me.
Sorry I cannot confirm velocity was the same or not though.
I did not see any ill affects going back to a bright clean bore after those few fowling shots.
Does wipeout wipeout carbon?I used wipeout patchout pretty religiously & thought I had clean barrels until I purchased a bore scope, from start of lands for about 8 inches was black then rest of barrel shiny. used thorroclean as directed with losso brushes probably two sessions on each rifle I own & black was gone on all. 6BR, 6 CM, .223 fullbore & .204 Ruger. I have tried JB bore paste before also & it didn't take out as much carbon as Thorroclean. first patches were very black.
Hard carbon in first few inches, no, not even a little. If Wipeout is used while barrel is still warm from shooting then it may keep carbon at bay and prevent hard carbon build up if you use a bronze brush.Does wipeout wipeout carbon?
Its not the product that causes the slow down but having a clean barrel. From the experiments my rifle club have done we found on average a 6fps slower first shot or what a lot of people call cold bore shot. better term would be clean bore shot. By the third shot the speed was back to the normal operating speed.
JB is a very non aggressive cleaner.JB bore paste before also & it didn't take out as much carbon as Thorroclean
