Things I hate and love about AR15 platform

WHAT I HATE about the AR15 platform.
I'm a shooter, I'm not a gun smith, I'm not a machinest, I hate shopping and I can't stand the market for the AR15 parts.

The web sites for parts are awful and every monkey on the planet ( not to disrespect monkeys) is making something for the AR15. As an example you look through stocks, there are a ton of them but you look at a stock and you need inserts for QR sling release. Why would you make a stock that forces you to buy more parts to use all its features?

If I look at a stock that has QD features it needs the QD inserts to come installed in it, WTF! Same can be said for other aspects.

I know people want to accessorize their rifle, just look on the web, but what's next? Is Victoria Secret is going to start make AR accessories?

WHAT I LOVE about the AR15 platform.
An extremely reliable, accurate, durable, cost effective rifle platform, PERIOD! I'd trust these rifles to perform in critical circumstances!

I have a Colt A2 in 5.56 x 45 in a Delta configuration that I've had since it was new, over 30 years! I shamefully gave $350 for the rifle, scope, elevated cheek piece and sling.

I also have an Aero Precision M4E in 6MM ARC, a complete Aero upper, an Aero lower, LPVO, A2 mil-spec iron sights, 2 stage match trigger. Around $1,870 with all the above parts, extra magazines, sling, LPVO and a brass catcher.

I just want to be able to buy a reliable rifle from an honorable company at a reasonable price, not engage in intense shopping.
 
Why I stick with pinned front sight block rifles in military type configuration .
Really no reason for bells and whistles.standard military configuration works just fine

A2 butt stock or m4 standard collapsible with FSB is just fine.most durable anyway

A pinned front sight block will always be more durable than a clamp on front sight block... Skip the free float tube and fancy barrel nuts and handguards.

Original a2,a4's and m4's are way to go.skip the fancy

Except a heavy barrel rig with free float tube dedicated for long range use.thats practical also

You are right, most of those monkey's just relabel parts and sell them as their brand. If people take the time to remember what this rifle was made for and where it was meant to be used, it worked well except when L.B.J. made them change powders so Ladybird could make more money from her investment in the powder company. Yes it took time to fine tune it just like every other firearm.

One of the things I like about it is that it will fit in the tool box on my ATV and will smack coyotes down with no problem at all.

Howdy !

I myself, never enjoyed sensations the vibrating recoil spring induced into my teeth during firing; especially in my " filled " 6 y.o. molars ".

But hey....that's just me.

As a range safety officer at a public range, what I hate about the AR is guys buying one and not reading, or knowing , or doing a basic field strip and cleaning, before the first range trip.
So many FTF, or FTE, or stuck cases, when I have a whole shooting line to watch out for and can't give them the one on one they obviously need, so I have to help a little bit instead of doing a class on knowing your AR.
I still love this job.

In my opinion it's a result of the marketing getting untrained people buying rifles that in many cases are not up to snuff and in some instances ammo that's dubious.

On the other hand there are those, again in my opinion because of marketing that feel they have to have a $3,000 AR15 with 8 pounds of doo dads on it. I do have scopes on mine but I'm very comfortable with the iron sights.

Fortunately for many of us it's a great rifle platform for target shooting, hunting and everything else at reasonable prices.

FYI my Colt A2 in 5.56 has only had 1 FTF in its entire existence, a Marine friend of my son was shooting it.

I believe it was one bad primer but I did get one factory round that doubled about two years ago. Not bad for well over 3 decades.

The improved long range accuracy was one aspect of getting my 6ARC. The 5.56 in my opinion is great but wind at range is an issue and medium game is a non starter.

A damn versatile rifle platform. Robert Macnama really tried to ruin it but thankfully failed.
 
I never got into the “building” thing with ARs. I bought a few different makes in different configurations and shoot them as is. Stag, Colt, Rock River, Wyndham. Haven’t had a bad one yet. A couple guys told me not to buy the Wyndham in 7.62x39 because it “wouldn’t function right and give you problems”. So far, it has worked fine. A Palmetto State is the least accurate but still 2” at 100. OK for a truck gun beater.
 
Competed in High Power Service Rifle since the mid 90's. Only issue I have had with an AR was a bolt catch broke in the Slow Fire 600 yd stage. Made the single reloads a bit tricky but still shot my average. It was about a 2 dollar fix and no issues since.
