The state of Oregon

In the land of Libs, not Lincoln anymore. (Illinois)
You first need to have a FOID card to purchase any firearm related item, (ammo)or even look a one in a shop.
That's what takes awhile to get.
You can purchase ammo and such that minute with one. Pistols have a 3 day wait and long guns 1 day wait.
The state police do the back round check on you getting a concealed permit and that can take as long
longer than 90 days. So they are telling anyone that has to renew one to start earlier than that.
But the Lib politicians in Chicago are always trying to double the rates and lowering the time they are good for.

I am pretty sure that with a felony on record it is illegal for this guy to own a firearm. That is a federal law as far as I know. Since the feds do the BG check I see no way he legally owns a gun. The state may issue a permit but still it is a federal thing .
I’ve only heard of one guy doing this in Florida after five years you can write a letter and petition the governor to restore your rights that is the only way I see that even possible

i heard of people getting their records expunged but it has been by court order

Good reading,

NICS Services
The NICS provides full service to the FFLs in 30 states, five U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. The NICS provides partial service to seven states. The remaining 13 states perform their own checks through the NICS.

I wonder which 13 states and which 7.
i didnt know that - need to find out which are witch 4 sure. And i suppose thus means the states can run it how they want as long as they do a minimum wat the feds do.

I have been back home in Oregon for 13 years now and my background checks always go very quickly. Less then 10 minutes even during the covid. Then again I do have an unusual name.

Also, I thought it was against the law for them to keep your info for more than 90 days or so? Isn't a background check just seeing if your name is on a list of criminals?

I must be lucky. Picked up a new GP100 Saturday. Took me a half hour to make up my mind and 15 minutes to sail through the background check.

The checks were set up to prevent folks with any major crimes or acts of violence, from obtaining firearms. As such, I would be surprised if they did not do a complete check for each purchase, regardless of how long ago you last made a purchase.

Guy walks in today and buys a pistol. He is cleared and picks it up several days later. Six months later he gets in an argument with his girl friend and threatens her. She gets a restraining order. If the state simply looks in it's file and relies on his having passed a check six months earlier. That negates the reason the law was passed in the first place.

Certainly, if you are going to do a background check, relying on a five year old check, kind of defeats the purpose.

I offer this statement simply as a logical argument. this is not a statement, supporting or condemning, the 2nd amendment.

This is the reason that here in Canada legal gun owners are run through the Canadian Police Information System every day (background check).

Funny thing is convicted offenders have no such requirements imposed upon them, hmmm.

I checked and that person cleared NICS without a problem, it is the state of Oregon that is holding it up for some reason. As for being able to pick the firearm up after 72hrs, yes the owner of the store can release the gun at that point but the state of Oregon states very plainly to the store owner that if the store does so they are completely responsible for any crimes it is used in there after. I do not know if that is true or just a threat to stop the store owner from releasing the firearm.

In Kansas if you have a concealed carry licenses, show your ID fill out the 4473. Out the door you go no phone calls. Like the old days.

To purchase a firearm in WA you now have to sign away your HIPAA rights. This is clearly a violation of federal law. To exercise your Constitutional rights in WA you have to be put on a list (and I think we all know the purpose of that list) and give up your right to privacy with respect to your medical records.

Is this because of marijuana legalization?

US DOJ just sent out a letter to all ammunition vendors (and perhaps FFL's) in CA clarifying that, despite recreational dope use being legal in the state, a "yes" answer to the question "have you been prescribed, or do you use marijuana" should be an automatic prohibition when it comes to firearms or ammunition.

Never any questions about alcohol use or prescription drugs. Go figure
