The state of Oregon

I want to put this out here just to see if others in our nation are seeing the same thing when it comes to buying firearms. As i have mentioned in the past I work part time in a store that sells firearms to get out of the house and to put a dent in my firearms bill where i work. (It's a fun place to be for a few hours each week as well) As such i get to see who gets through the background checks and how long it takes to do so. Most sail right on through but some don't for whatever the reason may be.

I bring this up because there are a few people here who have been waiting for from 30 to 90+ days and still waiting to clear the back ground check. In the state of Oregon it turns out that every five years it throws out your information showing that you can buy a firearm and then makes you go through it all over again. This requires all the states you may have lived in to do your background checks for that state over again, and of course those states have already done it once and unless it's changed since then Oregon already has/had the information but deleted it in their every five year purge.

This of course makes for doing it all over again at a time when every state has a rush to buy firearms due to the up coming election and the Dems running most big city states and the on purpose riots in those cities.

So those people who have cleared their back ground check in the past must wait who knows how long to do it again, this happens to include a person here who two days earlier bought a hunting rifle from us, but now must start all over again because his past back ground was deleted because of the five year state rule. This to me seems to be just another way to slow down or stop a person from owning a firearm in the state of Oregon.
I should also point out that the voting power in this state is on the west side of the state and is all Dem controlled, from the governor on down. Is this happening in your state or are we here just the "lucky" ones?

Wait??? Oh yeah! Maybe 5 minutes if someone else is there in front of me when i show up.
Ok that isnt true, it takes another 5 or 10 for the transaction and NCIC phone call.

I worked at a pawnshop several years ago and when they delayed
a person, they had 3 days to call back with a response 1 way of
the other. After 3 days, they could pick up their gun. Laws may
have changed since but that was how it was then. If you got denied, a trooper would show up at your house the next day.

The checks were set up to prevent folks with any major crimes or acts of violence, from obtaining firearms. As such, I would be surprised if they did not do a complete check for each purchase, regardless of how long ago you last made a purchase.

Guy walks in today and buys a pistol. He is cleared and picks it up several days later. Six months later he gets in an argument with his girl friend and threatens her. She gets a restraining order. If the state simply looks in it's file and relies on his having passed a check six months earlier. That negates the reason the law was passed in the first place.

Certainly, if you are going to do a background check, relying on a five year old check, kind of defeats the purpose.

I offer this statement simply as a logical argument. this is not a statement, supporting or condemning, the 2nd amendment.

Our d--b a-- last couple governors(dems) screwed up the Mn drivers license so bad that illegal residents were able to obtain ccp. The Fed's caught wind of this, so we lost our our ccp purchase privilege and how have to wait for the background check.

I know a guy with multiple felonies that got his chp here in NC.
They don't go back more than 7 yrs he said.
I don't like it that he can own one when I had to jump through hoops because of a ex wife complaint 10 yrs ago

I thought if they didn’t get back with you in 72 hours the purchase could go through but what do I know I’ve never had a problem

Tomorrow I’m going to do the paperwork so I can start cooling off for 10 days. Ordered another Bighorn single shot action awhile back. Funny how cooling off makes me so angry!!! Mike

I am pretty sure that with a felony on record it is illegal for this guy to own a firearm. That is a federal law as far as I know. Since the feds do the BG check I see no way he legally owns a gun. The state may issue a permit but still it is a federal thing .

Here in the peoples republic of WA our carry permits are no-longer valid for a firearms purchase. The state of Washington is taking over from the feds in background checks. They are setting up a firearms purchase registry and until that is complete (could be decades given the efficiency of government in this state) the carry permits are not permitted. Of course a registration of firearms owners would appear to be unconstitutional but that is only the beginning. To purchase a firearm in WA you now have to sign away your HIPAA rights. This is clearly a violation of federal law. To exercise your Constitutional rights in WA you have to be put on a list (and I think we all know the purpose of that list) and give up your right to privacy with respect to your medical records. This is of course being challenged in the courts.

Good point but

I would think the current state of residence would keep a current and up do date list of records that would result in a denial.

Requiring updated records from previous states of residence that won't change is asinine. Nothing but obstruction to frustrate buyers to decrease the demand. Infringement for sure.

Shows what I know i guess. I thought everytime a NICs check was made it was through the Feds and they approved a person or not and the purchaser is checked every purchase. So far mine always go through quick. ill have to check into this.

Just bought a new 9mm about a month ago. Took 90 seconds. :) And Im from the Communal-Liberal-Socialist-Peoples Republic of Vermont, King Bernie Presiding. Go figure?o_O

Here in CO the wait was 3 days, about a week ago. Our East side of the state (Lib. side) also controls the rest of the state
