The Dasher 100 Yard Challenge

I didn't shoot an agg, but I wanted to post two five shot groups from my 22 Dasher at 200 yds. The lower right group was shot in Bright sunlight with mirage boiling like crazy. A friendly cloud covered the sun, and I ran another five fairly quick in a pretty calm condition. Quite a difference.75 gr. Amax, 35.0 gr. 4350, 7 twist. .254 no-turn neck. I may follow orders next time and shoot a 100 yd. Agg
Those are some nice 200 yard groups! Good shooting! Shoot 100 yards and keep us posted!

Nice shooting! .884 avg group will give you a 2946 agg! Very nice!I only shoot at 300yds, so here's my 300yd agg shooting JLKs in my 6 Creed. .884" avg.
Bart, If I did shoot at 100yds I'm pretty sure I could do a better agg seeing there would be less wind to worry about. etc. etc.
At 300 is was probably more mirage than anything, though. Winds were light that day.
Not a Dasher but a BR and probably the best agg I've ever shot to date and most likely ever again. Each group was .002 difference in seating depth.
It agged out at .233 for 6 targets. These were shot at 300 yards.
Here's another group from same rifle same seating depth as bottom right, only difference is I trimmed each piece of brass .002 shorter for a total of .010 in brass length to prove having the brass exactly same is not a problem. Although I'd never let them go to .010 different from longest to the shortest it's just not needed to trim each time.

Here is a pic of a 5 shot 5 group agg that Greg King shot this weekend at Mill Creek Rifle Club with the 6mm Grinch and 80 gr Dominators. He beat a bunch of PPCs and shot it in the Heavy Varmint class. Greg went on to win the 2 Gun. I really think this cartridge can give the 6 PPC a run for its money.

The GRINCH is a 6.5 Grendal, blown out to a 40 degree shoulder and necked down to a 6mm. It is the brain child of a father-son team Dean and Brett Stroud from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Both started shooting short range benchrest; and after getting beat up by a lack of experience reading wind flags, they started looking for something that would give them an advantage over the PPC, especially at 200 yards.
Brett felt that an 80gr bullet and a 12 twist barrel would be a killer combination. Brett and Dean found a small batch of .900 length 6mm jackets and had Don Lahr make some 80 gr bullets. Those bullets shot very well. I believe Brett shot them in a match at 200 yards and came in second with a .19?? Agg. So they knew the combination would work. However, 80 gr bullets and/or jackets to make them are close to non-existent. That's where I came into the picture. The last thing that I wanted to do was to make a batch of 80 gr bullets. I'm busy enough without stopping and breaking everything down to make a few thousand speciality bullets. But Brett and Dean's enthusiasm and persistence wore me down. I literally rummaged around in the barn and found a few buckets of .900 length jackets from Ed Watson's estate that I bought over 10 years ago. I made the bullets up on the Dominator per Brett's request. So far it looks like a impressive combination. Brett tried his hand at shooting his first 600 yard match, and shot a 1.1, 1.2 and a 1.8; but got hammered by 1 shot dropping out of his group, turning an .870 into a 3 incher.
I've shot it here at the house at 100 and 500 yards, running the bullets between 3180 and 3280 ft/sec. From what I've seen, this cartridge is just as accurate as the PPC. The Dominator has an estimated BC around .370, giving it a significant advantage over the typical 68 gr bullet used in short range with a .270 or so BC.
I have an 8 twist barrel on the way. I am wanting to test some of my 105s and 103s in it. We have already established that the GRINCH is capable of 6BR speeds with the heavier bullet combination.
We will see, but it's fun times testing something like this!

it sounds to me like they have re-invented the 6mmBR,,,!!!!....I have said for years that they would shoot with the ppc's,,,,,here is proof,,,just need good bullets in the 75-80 gr range,,,,and of course a bbl with appropriate twist,,,,I am luky enuff to have several of the old Fowler and Watson bullets in that wt. range,,,,I have shot this combo at 500 for many years,,,,I just cant shoot as good as TB and dont have the money to campaign it all over the map,,,,Roger
PS,,,I realize that they are handicaped with the ppc bolt face and have to use such concoctions ,,,,if more seasoned shooters would even try the old plane jane BR they would be pleasantly suprized,,,the Grindel case un altered is just a twich smaller volume than a 6mm BR,,,soooo if it is ackliezed and Dasherized,, it shoule be within a drop or two of being the same volume,,,,sounds like a BR to me,,,,

This case has a slightly less capacity then the 6Br. It's also Smaller in diameter and longer. It's really more like a 6ppc on steroids.
I've tried the 6BR. It's not as accurate as this combination at short range. At least not without some modification. That's just my opinion.
The Grinch has come out swinging! We will see! It's taken a WHOLE LOT to convince me that it's capable of PPC accuracy and possibly have an advantage over the PPC in windy conditions.
