I’m sure that was cause for a few choice words...Rock chucker has a good amount of leverage.. got my finger stuck in it once...
I’m sure that was cause for a few choice words...
My son 8and daughter 7were helping with some 9mm brass prep. She was putting in the press, son was sizing and pulling out sized ones...they were moving along at a decent pace, and from corner of my eye I see daughter fumble a brass, son pulling handle on press, I reached to grab handle but he got side of her finger with recapping pin luckily just a bruise and blood blister no puncture...well needless to say momma put a stop to that...they still help me prep from time to time but I give them different tasks...Yep. And a bruise and blood spots under the skin. Gave me a whole new idea about how much force brass gets worked in dies.. thank god I dont use depriming stems in dies.
Pretty sure ive heard of something getting their finger caught and that stem going through their finger..
So ill add more.. cuz even I say how the hrll do ypu catch your finger in a single stage press.... well there was a time when I loaded thousands of handgun rounds on a single stage... id do all the brass 1 step at a time... got a reutine speed going resizing 40 cal brass, one after another knocking em out... well my groove I was in got messed up and WHAM got my finger trying to stick a case in the shell holder...
just used my redding ultramag for the first time. as a test i sized some 308 brass down to 7BR in one pass - the older brass took some good force on the handle but they were not annealed. New brass didnt take much effort. thing is the flimsy bench didnt move. what i like about the coax and ultramag is the force stays mostly inside the press. my RCBS presses youre pulling down on the bottom and causing way more force pulling on your bench. the ultramag is roughly double the money of a rock chucker but i wish i would have bought one years ago instead of my RC. ultramag is bigger, beefier and has a taller window than a RC. of coarse i like having all these presses on my bench toI have a second hand RCBS jr 3 press and I really like it but what I am asking it to do is rough on me and it as well ... I am making 3 diffrent cases ,,, a few 7mm BR,, and 280 British,, and 6.5x55 Swede cases... there is a bodacious amount of lever pressure and my arm hurts like crazy from all of the up and down stuff... so is there a press out there with good mechanical leverage on the arm thats affordable? I would like to stay with RCBS but hey I will go where the consensus takes me HELP!!!!
You don’t say what brass you’re using to start with so We don’t know how much sizing you’re doing. In all fairness my rock chucker will size 308 brass down to 7BR in one pass to using a std RCBS set of 7BR dies. I’ll have to try the coax. I wouldn’t do that on a regular basis and put thatredding ultramag? In order for me to make my cases with my press I have to index the die in 1/4 increments in order to push down the lever and its a LOT of PRESSURE and it took from 5 to 8 pumps to complete one case... I have blisters in between my thumb and first finger ... so I will look into the ultramag I like the idea of what your picture showed...
I’ll check that one out thanksThe lyman orange crusher is excellent. Its my main press. Like the redding presses for whatever reason it doesnt try to pull the bolts thru the table when using it like rcbs presses do.
well I thought I said I was using the rcbs junior 3 press in my opening statement. could be wrong tho,, but it is what I am using currently I am using 6.5 creedmoor brass and 280 Remington brass for making my 280 British brass... now that I am over the whole need to have "280" on the head stamp of the case I dropped the 280 Rem from the forming process because of how hard the extra thick walls of the case made made my life a torture test with my press but it did make good cases though ,,,and at this time and switched to 6.5 creedmoor and It made for a much better forming project for both the 7mm BR and 280 British rounds..... my right hand is so sore right now I cant even hardly push down on the presses handle without putting pain right up into my elbowYou don’t say what brass you’re using to start with so We don’t know how much sizing you’re doing. “strain” on my coax. So the RC will be a huge improvement over the jr for you to size down brass with And you would prob be satisfied with it but You would prob be happiest with the ultramag —-coarse you pay for it.
Yes you did say the press you used. Glad you got ur project done. I sized down some stuff in the past with my JR. not somethin I wanna do again. Hope you heal up soon.well I thought I said I was using the rcbs junior 3 press in my opening statement. could be wrong tho,, but it is what I am using currently I am using 6.5 creedmoor brass and 280 Remington brass for making my 280 British brass... now that I am over the whole need to have "280" on the head stamp of the case I dropped the 280 Rem from the forming process because of how hard the extra thick walls of the case made made my life a torture test with my press but it did make good cases though ,,,and at this time and switched to 6.5 creedmoor and It made for a much better forming project for both the 7mm BR and 280 British rounds..... my right hand is so sore right now I cant even hardly push down on the presses handle without putting pain right up into my elbow
Really? I have at least six that I use regularly. Most of us only have one press.
