The $30 powder thrower

I used the LEE PPM and threw 50 charges of Varget 28.5 gr and out of the ones I checked, the low was 28.38 and high was 28.61. I shot them yesterday and fps showed

Low 2571

High 2665

Thats weird cause on the 2 I have i can do 50 varget and nearly all will be closer to dead on than off by a 10th max. I will usually do one or two of the 50 with an 'operator error' throw resulting in max 2/10th off. My variances are nearly always on the low side of the weight unless i do an 'error' and they wind up higher.

I have found that pouring the powder into the supplied hopper gives me above results. If I screw the powder container onto the base then I get alot more 'flyers'.

It could be my user error as well. Here were 9 throws in a row:
28.50
28.45
28.61
28.28
28.38
28.59
28.53
28.54
28.53

well they are all plastic! maybe some work better than others!! I never touched the tension adjustment.

did you screw on the powder tub or pour into the lee hopper?

I have the deluxe brass version arriving this week. See how it works out.

I took it off and poured it in then put cap on and put back on thrower.

If your tension hasnt been messed with then deduction is a bad wiper or throw technique. One will find many more praises of accuracy consistency than not on these little things. I do a slowish up and down even throw with no stop on the top other than to reverse the throw.

I have the older cheap model. I set it a hair light then dump in my 10-10 scale. A couple kernels added and good to go. Best way I’ve found so far. Edk

To revive this thread. As much as I love the $30 Lee thrower, I ordered the deluxe version with the stand and the interchangeable nylon drums. NOT the same animal. I got .4 gr consistency with varget. I tried both the nylon and the brass drum. It has a wiper of sorts but about every 6th throw or so I could feel it bind on a kernel. I played with the tension adjustment but no improvement.
And to cross check I dumped the powder in my cheapie and threw 5 in a row within 1/20th of a grain variance and a few close to but less than a 10th. The pos felt way smoother and tighter than the deluxe, which is already boxed up ready to mail back for return. So much for that idea.

If I didn't have two of the flimsy pos I wouldn't believe a single above post The little guys really work well.

I just loaded 50rds of 6br with varget with the pos and a tuned m5. I timed the process and it took 40 seconds avg to charge them all with an exact to a 1/20th of a grain max variance. Any over a 20th I dumped and re-throwed. No trickler used. 48 of the charges were (correction) max 1/10th and two were max 2/10th off. If I had set my limits to an acceptable 1/10th then I would have averaged probably an easy 25 sec per charge without hurrying. Not bad at all.
