Strange, I can spend 20 hours being artistic, Machining on the Lathe or
doing a Fine Oil painting in front of the Fireplace
but from too many years of being a Welder/Steelworker
I do not have the patience for wood, carpentry, or vehicle painting/bodywork
Making a stock looks too much like bodywork and vehicle painting

Even though I might have the skills and ability to do this,
--- I would rather pay someone else who can and has.

Model 1 from Carvermaster if I remember correctly.

It works well, but certainly has it's quirks. Like most things, you learn as you go and most issues can be worked around.

Your work looks pretty stellar from where im sitting.
Curly maple is limitless in possibilities for finish using dyes, walnut i like to stick mainly with colors already present in the wood.

I like maple just as much as walnut, some seriously pretty maple out there if you are patient and persistent in looking for it. Fun seeeing them take shape. This one piece was a leftover from a board, wasn't tall enough to put the full perchbelly on it, wasn't sure I liked it at first, as it wasn't what I really wanted, but, actually turned out to be very practical when using on bags on the bench. Burned with propane torch and used danish oil on it. Smoked a pile of gophers with it.

One of my favorite parts about doing this... when the first coat of oil goes on.

I have bright red transtint, and I've played around with it on scraps. Blending it with black, or medium brown, etc to tone it down some.

My son wants blue, so maybe my hunting rifle this year will have some red...

Dark Cherry - base coat of Bright Red, Med Brown and Black. Followed by a coat of Copper (1:1 Bright Red/Brown)

Id probably layer this with more Brown for a muted "classic" look, or hit it with straight Red as I sanded up through the grits to get more pop.

Some serious skills in this thread. I have a hard time sawing in a straight line! Very impressed by the time and effort put into these stocks.
