Custom Curly Maple - Adjustable,

Freebore has the 77gr SMK at 2.390 to touch, and the 80.5gr Bergers at 2.520" while keeping the bearing surface above the neck shoulder junction.

Should be great for PRS tac class with 75 ELDM or 77 SMKs, then you could run the 80.5 or 85.5 Bergers in Open division.

Stock is almost done, I should be able to shoot some groups Friday.

Black with subtle fade to silver to compliment the black action and stainless barrel.

USPS didn't make me wait until Monday, and the SRS Hunter came in this afternoon. Chalk that up as a win...



The arca rail is flush with the front of the bottom metal all the way to the magwell, so nothing snags.


I'll start adding color tonight.

Played around with a bunch of colors over the weekend, and this is where I ended up. Pop of color for my match rifle, but not so crazy it stands out when hunting.

I wanted to experiment with an extra blank for this season's NRL Hunter rifle.

Did a rough carve on the grip area, then left it (no shaping or sanding). It left an almost tree bark look. Feels great in the hand, obviously not as refined as checkering, but serves the same purpose.

Reminds me of my old maple baseball bats smothered in pine tar.

I have been wanting to try checkering.
Do you have any pointers?

Those are the first lines I've scratched, so I'm far from knowledgeable.

First, thing... just start. I learned more in 10 minutes of cutting than I did from months of reading and watching videos. Someone like yourself will be able to observe what's going on and adjust quickly.

My first mistake was making the master lines too deep. Basic geometry, as you cut deeper with a 60° the line gets wider. That made it much harder for the spacing cutter to track properly, and also made it hard to cut with the tool perpendicular to the wood.

Lesson learned. All lines cut with a very fine first pass, then come back and chase them out in a 2nd or even 3rd pass.

I've been watching a lot of Jesse Kaufman videos he makes it look super easy. Lol

Tonight's practice was a simple point pattern and trying not to blow out the borders. Adding and extending rows to add points and keep them balanced.

These have been cut in with the 60°. The 75° and 90° ill save for tomorrow.
