Tack Driver 6

I am sure everyone is aware of the different matches across the country that are duplicating the Tack Driver format to some degree. I now have been contacted about someone doing one across the “BIG” pond! It is in the works to hold a similar match in New Zealand! This match and the interest world wide is one people are noticing and is great advertisement for the sponsors of the “original” Tack Driver! Thanks everyone for your continued interest in bringing all disciplines together no matter what organization you belong to and enjoying yourselves at “The Family reunion” of Benchrest competitors. THE MATCH THAT STARTED IT ALL AND OFTEN IMITATED, BUT NEVER DUPLICATED!

Jim, maybe you could start a home and home series with them. Could be great fun.
For a while we had a range here in Texas where we shot home and home matches with the Australians using their 500 meter fly shoot targets.
You can only imagine the amount of BS that went on between a bunch of Texans and a bunch of Australians. Both groups got pretty rowdy. We even won a match or two against them.

The aspects of the format I like are the 22lb weight limit and the 300yd. range. A lot of local clubs, at least around western Pa., could work with those guidelines for the postal type matches without having to host many more shooters than they are used to dealing with.

Regards
Rick

Well Mr. Cline, you will now have use the word "Original" now in all your
posts, presentations, and on all the printed shirts.

Hey.....Any hats ?? I'd pay extra......The wording with "Original" would stand
out.

I think one was all Texans get .250" off each and every group.
I'm sure that is not necessary.
The great aspects of the Cline Tack Driver format are the Any Rifle to 22 pounds and the 300 meter distance. I have always liked 300 meter matches because it is close enough to see your shot hit (sometimes), and far enough that the wind can be a real factor. Add in the very difficult score target, and it's a great concept; made even better by the quality of shooters it attracts (excluding myself, I'm sad to say). Something to look forward to, for sure. I just try to remember, the back pages need names too! I've ordered a bunch of 200 yard Hunter targets so I can practice missing them at 300m. My own 300m range is pretty flat, but at the silhouette range, the pigs are at least 35 feet above the firing line, so that should work. Now, I just have to make the time. WH

Spotting scopes will be allowed ON the bench. They have to be ON the bench or attached to it, can not be on a tripod between the benches. The tie breaker will be figured differently and will go to the highest place finisher in either group or score.
So I go spend $4500 on a scope dedicated to this one Match, that (might) have glass good enough to see through the mirage, and you change the rules now to allow spotting scopes?

You can try to persuade Jim to let you use it.
Good luck :)
We are not on the same page.

I just got home, so let me clarify.
The Rules in Tack Driver One through Five were no spotting scopes. And certainly no coaching.
Everybody that has been knows that in at least Two of the Five, especially last year, mirage was so bad to the point that seeing bullet holes was impossible with what most of us considered top grade scopes. In my case, I used a 15x55 Night Force Competition.
Last year, it was useless.
So, in keeping within the rules, that being you have to rely on the scope on the Rifle, many shooters, myself included, decided to invest in a scope that at least was advertised as the best thing available.
On a Match that has gained the following and prestige that The TackDriver has, shooters are taking things very serious within the rule laid down. Keeping in mind, rules of the Match not only tell us what we can do, it also tells us what we can not do.
Many of us start planning for the next TackDriver the minute we let the last shot go for the last one. Things such as what Rifle, bullet, cartridge, scope etc are all part of this planning. Shooters invest a lot of time and money attempting to “get it right” for next year.
The time to make a course of fire and equipment change for the next match is immediately after the last one. Any other option would be to have the new rules go into affect for Tack Driver 7.
I am simply trying to convey a message. Personally, I think having a big cumbersome spotting scope on the Bench is going to be a real hassle, especially in the Group Portion. I have seen first hand the logistical problems, everybody is pretty hectic trying to get their equipment off the bench so the next relay is able to get their’s on. And Jim doesn’t screw around. You better not hold up the program.

So it is just my opinion, I think allowing spotting scopes on the Bench will simply cause more head aches than the idea was thought to solve. That, and I think it sets a bad precedent to change a major equipment rule for the upcoming match unless you announce it immediately following the previous Match.

I will be there regardless, trying to conquer OrangeBurg. I will also continue to offer my support of the TackDriver, which I know Jim appreciates.

Jackie raises a valid point re. the timing of the rule change, but I think more people are likely go with the upgraded glass on the rifle, as opposed to using a spotting scope. For myself, I'm more likely to go the upgraded riflescope route, since I would have to upgrade my spotting scope anyway, if I figured to use one (my spotting scope is an antique B&L I use for hunting). As a late comer, I get to benefit from the experience of better shooters. They seem to be telling me my old 36's won't cut it. Crap! WH

Yep, this is it here.

I have mentioned you in the credits Jim Cline. It would be great to come over to SC one day! We are shooting in September (late winter). I am trying to get a a 4 way split of entrants between BR, F-Class, PRS and hunters. So far the hardest ones to get interested are the PRS guys even though they have 22-24lb guns in 6GT with brakes on!

I'll pretty much agree about a possible equipment hassle between relays.
For what it's worth, I can't use a spotter. With my joystick rest, a left port
rifle, and the way I position myself, there is no room for one, it would just
be in my way.
