I shot Thursday morning with my 36x scope when there was no mirage and it was tough to see holes at 300 M. You could, but it was tough.
The ability to see bullet holes comes and goes in the spotters just like in the scopes. That is where I figured out I could see the bullet holes just a bit better with my left eye than with my right. How about the Spotters, could they see through the bad stuff?
I was experiencing the coming and going while aiming @ .125 inch dot with my right eye until I had cataract surgery recently. Now I am able to stay focused with no issues on that dot and also the 1/16 inch dot on the IBS 100 yd. target. The ability to see bullet holes comes and goes in the spotters just like in the scopes. But when I really really fuzzed up, the spotters were useless as well.
Sorry to hear that Joe. I guess in those circumstances one simply has to do the best they can. Hope you do good next time @ Tack Driver.I have a little different issue. About three years ago, I experienced an eruption of wet Macular degeneration in my right eye. I get an injection in the eye every 60 days to keep it under control but that has destroyed a bit of the resolution and light gathering in that eye. So under less that ideal conditions, it is a bit of a handicap although with decent conditions, I can still distinguish the "X" dots on score targets as well. I can see a bit better with the left eye but not enough to overcome the handicap that comes with shooting left handed although I did that for about 6 months after the macular degeneration occurred. But that is not fun.
Well, I am still able to drive, shoot, and have a good time and bs with the best of them. I count that as a win any day. God is good to me.Sorry to hear that Joe. I guess in those circumstances one simply has to do the best they can. Hope you do good next time @ Tack Driver.

100 % Credit goes to Wayne Campbell he is the one who taught (and is still cause I’m a slow learner ) me how to handle heavy mirage when you can’t see.If I were investing money to shoot TD6 better (I’ve spent THOUSANDS and still can’t shoot) I’d spend ALL that money trying to pay Hugh Williamson to tell me how a man on the 4th relay shot a 50 on his last score target on Saturday and a 49 on his last score target on Sunday. Apparently Mr. Williamson shoots BETTER in the mirage than without! His skills and knowledge still have me AMAZED!! I don’t know the gentleman but if I could seek his advice I’d be on it like stink on shit!!! View attachment 1605623
Hugh, you should write a book…….call it, “Achieving The Impossible When The Impossible Can Not Be Achieved”.100 % Credit goes to Wayne Campbell he is the one who taught (and is still cause I’m a slow learner ) me how to handle heavy mirage when you can’t see.
And a bit of luck always helps !
Luck my behind. You shot great all year and did at the Tack Driver 5 too! Looking forward to Tack Driver 6 already. See you next October!100 % Credit goes to Wayne Campbell he is the one who taught (and is still cause I’m a slow learner ) me how to handle heavy mirage when you can’t see.

If you’re talking about spotting scopes, yes for the most part. If your talking about someone spotting for a shooter, that is not allowed during the match. How about the Spotters, could they see through the bad stuff?

Jim and I think this and the high level of competition that attend is what shooters are looking for. The TD attendance should be a huge eye opener to the sanction governed matches out there!!Thank you for the kind words. All I try to do is give everyone an opportunity to come to an unsanctioned event where all the different disciplines can compete at a high level. Most of all it’s the good times and laughs had by everyone that makes this “family reunion” the match of the year!
Hell if there's beer involved, I'll teach you how to paint.Mr Williamson if you’re ever in KY I’ll offer you the best home cooked meal, a personal tour of the Red River Gorge and hell I’ll even let you pet my dog if you’ll drop a few pointers my way!
