Suppressors

Perhaps I used the wrong Anti-Seize but the copper in it it brased itself to my crown screwing up my accuracy until I re-crowned.

Never again, but there is no reason to use Anti-Seize anyway, which is designed to prevent bolts from getting seized due to corrosion. We don't have a corrosion problem, we have a back-pressure problem, which forces carbon into the threads. Anti-Seize isn't going to stop that any better than any thick grease will.

Any heavy, high-temp grease works fine, and you don't need much.

My first was a QD, but they have their own problems. Since then I have bought only direct-threads, and they suit me fine. It takes me very little time to switch a DT from one rifle to another.

I've been using a suppressor for 7 or 8 years now and have never used any lube. I have a Harvester suppressor which is a direct thread mount, using various thread adapters that thread into the suppressor tube and tighten in with a three pin wrench. I have a 5/8-24 from the factory and a 1/2-28 I made. I put the suppressor on with a good, firm hand tightness. Sometimes, when taking it off, the body will unscrew and leave the adapter on the barrel. If that happens, the adapters have wrench flats and come off the barrel easily with either a small adjustable wrench or the factory provided wrench. Never had any galling or other damage to the threads. The adapter threads are deeper than the barrel threads are long, so no carbon builds up on the barrel threads. For my purposes I prefer the direct thread, and want it to remain tight throughout a shooting session, which means no grease. I do take it off after every session, I don't leave it on. I'm sure this helps prevent seizing.
^^^ I'm in this camp. Going on 4 years now, moving the can from different rifles back and forth and I've never lubed any suppressor threads. Have not had a single problem.
