suppressor options?

I've been trying to track down a Thunderbeast Model 30PS for my 7WSM hunting rifle, but not having much luck around my area (Seattle). Tried a few different dealers.

Anyone have any alternative options that they like that might be easier to find? Looking for screw-on type, not clamp on, and no longer than 7".

Have you checked Silencerco or YHM ?

No, not yet. Frankly, I don't know much about 'cans. The 30PS was a recommendation from someone I know and it seems like it would fit the bill. I could probably pick one of the others based on spec alone, but I was hoping someone might have first hand experience with something they like.

I have the Phantom from YHM for my 308 , which is a bit heavy and the Osprey and sparrow from silencerco . Silencerco has some lightweight cans an they work very well . If you don't mind the weight yhm builds nice quiet cans also .I never had one on a magnum cartridge. Check there site an find a dealer that will let you demo them. This will give you an idea , I shoot my .308 without ear protection with the can .....works excellent !

For bolt gun I would stick to your guns and find the thunderbeast. You will be glad you found the thunderbeast instead of taking another brand. I love just because it is designed for bolt guns and as such is much lighter for the performance level it has than most other cans on the market.

I have the 30 BA on my 7 mag hunting rifle . It is worth the wait . I can not say enough good about thunderbeast . I would not settle for anything else .

GemTech SandStorm Titanium 7.62.
Shoots every thing from .17 Centerfire thru 308.
Love It!!!

Thunderbeast. Ultra light and well made. I have three. 22L, 223P1, and 30 P1. Extremely quiet. I shoot on 22lr, 204 Ruger, 20BR, 223, 223AI, 243 AI, 25-284, 6x284, 6.5x284, and 300 Blackout. Scary quiet with subsonic loads. No effect on accuracy except a bit improved. No loss of accuracy whats so ever. Does have change on impact from on to off positions (obvious most with subsonic loads). Repeatability with on - off - on. They are a bit pricey but their company is first rate. Scott

The testing performed with the suppressed 308 registered 135+db. Not wearing hearing protection is a sure way to lose your hearing. Anything above 85db without hearing protection is a recipe for problems.

No, I don't have it wrong. The test was performed with the suppressor on the barrel. The db rating on an unsuppressed 308 would be considerably higher. Suppressors do help to reduce the db rating by 14-35 db on average. Their biggest advantage is reducing the felt recoil. I have fired MANY suppressed weapons. I also don't believe in the hollywood movies silent weapons baloney. Along with that, I am completely deaf in my left ear, and have a 70% loss in my right ear. Keep shooting suppressed without hearing protection, and you'll end up losing your hearing.

Suppressors bring the noise down below pain threshold, but it is still above damage threshold.

Shit suppressors take away 19-21'ish dB.
Good suppressors take away 26-32'ish dB.

The noise is still at >100 dB with a suppressor.

I agree with the hearing loss. Subsonic loads not need for hearing protection, but still a pair of ear buds will keep your hearing intact. Shooting a supersonic rifle load suppressed is still loud enough to cause loss of hearing over time. Subsonic 22's are no louder than snapping your fingers. Movie quiet depending of firearm, suppressor quality, and even fps of subsonic 22 rounds. Not all sub 22's sound the same despite being classified as subsonic. Best to just wear the plugs. Scott
