7.62x39 . . .Any suggestions for a substitute for 220 Russian in making a 6ppc round?
Thankfully I am in good shape brass wise for now, but since it may get super tight in the supply line next year, just trying to think ahead and maybe experiment now.

I seem to remember reading that the original 6PPC was formed from 7.62x39 brass.7.62x39 . . .RG

They do make 7.62x39 brass but not 6ppc brass.I seem to remember reading that the original 6PPC was formed from 7.62x39 brass.
To me, it seemed the answer to why Lapua would ever make 7.62x39 brass.
Hopefully that's a good sign. Was it ever removed from their site. I looked at Grendel brass too and it's on their site as well. Of course, it doesn't show inventory for either. I'm not sure it means anything good but I hope I'm wrong.I see 220 Ruski brass back on Lapuas website.

Reloading Cases | Lapua Brass | .220 Russian
The .220 Russian case is the most popular brass for benchrest shooting, and it’s is the parent case for the .22 PPC, 6mm PPC and the 6.5mm Grendel.www.lapua.com
I did't even suggest Lapua made 6PPC brass did I?They do make 7.62x39 brass but not 6ppc brass.
I am as well ( I think ... maybe).Thankfully I am in good shape brass wise for now
Easy now. No need in getting anything wadded up around your crotch area. I read your statement differently that you apparently intended but that's because it was written that way. No harm, no foul here. Certainly no reason to get upset that I can see. You could have clarified it or left it alone. Either way, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.I did't even suggest Lapua made 6PPC brass did I?
I said Lapua makes 7.62x39 brass and it was originally used for 6PPC by the two P's (unless my senility is catching up).
Not wadded at all. Just wanted to clarify my remarks for those who apparently didn't read them through.Easy now. No need in getting anything wadded up around your crotch area. What we both posted is true. Is that not ok? It is to me, although I don't know if a ppc has anything to do with why they still offer x39 brass. It might but I'd venture to guess they don't sell much to anyone for that intention, in normal times at least. But it might've been, who knows how long ago. I haven't been in this game for as long as some and longer than many. But in my shooting career, I've only known people to buy Lapua brass in 220R to form ppc from, aside from other brands like Norma and Sako, of course. And I didn't mean to imply that you said nor suggested that they made ppc brass.
Sorry if what I said offended you. It was not intended to in any way. SMH
Just a mountain from a molehill, man. I respect you and I have nor want any problem. You may be right about why they still make it. IDK but I'd suspect it has a lot to do with the popularity of the x39 where they are and worldwide as opposed to ppc shooters. But again, I may be totally wrong or maybe I misread your post. Lol!Not wadded at all. Just wanted to clarify my remarks for those who apparently didn't read them through.
As for 7.62x39 Lapua brass, I couldn't care less if it's there or not. Just stating my reasoning on why they ever made it at all. I'm sure as long as 220 Russian is around it will be the only choice BUT the OP was looking for non-220R options and I gave him one. After all, that was the purpose of the thread.
In fact, there were a pair of PPC Rugers on the classifieds here within the last week and there were forming dies with them specifically to make PPC from 7.62x39 brass.
I've made my share of PPC brass and I still own a rifle chambered in the 6PPC so I ain't just a keyboard know-it-all and you have a fine reputation as a gunsmith and tuner wizard.
This is where you lost fella…They do make 7.62x39 brass but not 6ppc brass.
Go the this thread and look at the last pic. You will see RCBS dies (old ones) used to form PPC from 7.62x39 brass.Just a mountain from a molehill, man. I respect you and I have nor want any problem. This is just way harder than it should be. I did not say nor intend to imply that forming x39 brass to ppc couldn't be done. Just that it's not commonplace for it as most people use 220r brass. I'm done and I sincerely wish you and yours a very happy holiday seasonGo the this thread and look at the last pic. You will see RCBS dies (old ones) used to form PPC from 7.62x39 brass.
Even guys that have "been around forever" can learn if they will open their ears and close their mouth.
And yes that applies to me too!
