fire forming 6mm PPC

flexible

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi everyone flexible here. Looking for some help. Been loading pistol ammo for decades but last year i started loading 6.5 Creedmoor and I'm comfortable doing it. I now have a 6mm PPC bench rest rifle. I have Lapua 220 Russian i have to fire form to 6mm PPC but the chamber is so tight i can't reliably use my Hornady Lock & Lock or Sinclair tools to determine OAL.
I'm planning on loading a couple of dummy rounds to test the fit in the chamber before i load up the rounds for fire forming.
any suggestions on length?
Lapua .220 Russian and i have Euber 68 gr FB, Ulrich 64 gr BT & Rubright 66 gr FB.
I think that 2.0 inches should be ok, not too short or too long.
opinions please
thanks

light neck tension seat bullet long and chamber , remove and measure o.a.l. I set seater until bullet is pushed back .002 fire form then tweak seating with ladder test....

Do you know the neck diameter of the chamber because if you want to use a bullet to fireform it's highly likely you are going to have to turn the necks before you can fire them.

I'm currently doing that with a .268 chamber, loaded rounds measure .265 and if I remember correctly I had to turn .006" off the necks once expanded up to 6mm, so assuming your brass is similar (always dangerous thing to do) unless your neck diameter is .272 or larger, which I think is unlikely on a bench gun, you are going to have to turn the necks. I think the fact that you can't use the Sinclair tool confirms that.

got brass with the gun, don't have the box with me but they're already neck turned, i believe .262

The only accurate way to determine length is with a chamber length gauge as chamber lengths vary from builder to builder depending on the reamer used to cut the chamber. I've seen cartridges vary from 1.450 to 1.505.
