Solus - Another New Action

I ordered one today to check it out. Price is right. I did notice they didn't look like the smoothest actions in those videos. I don't think it will compare to any BAT's or Defiance actions that I typically use. I'm curious as it might be a step up from a 700 build. Wondering how the measurements will check on it. I'm personally not a fan of 60 degree bolts ether, JMO. Once I get it in hand I'll decide if I want to continue with a build on it or not.

I've only seen the 1 video that's posted on this thread. I certainly wouldn't judge the smoothness of the action from some limp wristed individual that looks like he's more afraid of it than anything.
It's definitely a bad video to be out to the public.

From someone who goes through every action I can say Defiance actions need very little work. Expesially in the ignition. If they made a BR action, they would do well. When everyone says they can buy brand x cheaper... true. But they aint all the same. No reason Defiance should not cost what a Bat or Borden does. They are that good.

Good info Alex, as I am a Defiance fan! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with the actions. Hopefully they continue to grow once this blip in the road is in the rear view mirror. My personal experience with Defiance has been nothing but great.

I agree, but what a kick in the teeth to the customers and company for the new owner to nearly double the price of the base model action. A gradual increase would have been accepted and expected.

I think people would have taken the increase on the more expensive action like the deviant pretty well. The bump in the tenacity seems to be the one everyone is fired up over. They probably should have just dropped it all together, I dont know.

Probably so.

It's a big problem if a product is a loss maker, and they say it was. A small increase won't cut it. You'd like to make money on it ... and if you're in the hole say $150 every action ... and you want to make $150 on every action .... you're looking at a $300 bump. Factor in material cost increases and it could look ugly.

In the end, we're all just spitballing. They'll try to turn a profit and I'll spend my money as I see fit. I hope they're around in 5 years.

A non-gun company I used to work for used to do that all the time. If large price changes or design changes were needed, they'd drop the old line and start fresh with a new product. It can be a lot cleaner way to do it than fooling around too much with an existing line.

I think these will sell well. A buddy just bought the whole rig with the KRG Bravo for ~$1500 before shipping. You can't put a rifle together with the same components for that price.

Many swoon over the Bighorn Origins. I have one and it is a nice action. It's nowhere close to the Defiance and Borden.

Well, not for long they can't. The CDG action from ARC seems to be a class above this one and it's intro price is 899. I'm waiting for one myself.

No disrepect meant when I say this. That ARC action is about as fugly an action as I've seen. I can't imagine I'm the only one that feels that way. With that said, I think the Solus will compete in the market.

The only reason I'm still sitting around the house in front of the computer is that I'm waiting on a call from our FedEx driver - tracking info shows that the 2 Solus actions I ordered from Aero are on the truck, out for delivery. I've been an Aero dealer for several years, and have had good experience with their AR parts & barrels from their wholly owned barrel making company, Ballistic Advantage.

I've built and/or owned rifles on BAT, Bighorn, Borden, Defiance, Nesika, Stiller, etc custom actions, along quite a few on Howa, Remington, and Winchester. Looking forward to seeing & handling the Solus actions when they get here...and if I like them, will be building a hunting weight rifle in 6XC for my own use on one of them.
