So if you were starting to precision reload from scratch...

as for trimming brass if just for the .308 get you one of these from garaud and be done with it. trims consistently and chamfers and deburs.

if doing muli cartridges then use this. http://www.pmatool.com/micro-adjust-trimmer-and-inserts/

You have so many recommendations. I have waited for a long time to have a coax press, would not be without it I also like the Forster shoulder bump dies if you have a chamber that's really tight it works great on that as well as getting a lee collet Die. I can also agree with everybody that looks at the Best dies possible. I would go with redding or whidden or Harrell's the dies are really key in my mind to keep from having run out problems. Coax presses seat very well. Forster dies are also very good, you can have them honed, love my forster seating dies with the coax.

I have realistic expectations. The only thing that I have to shoot is my 6.5 RPR so I'll be in Open. Heck of a way to start out. lol...
when forming brass to send in to get custom dies built you usually have to fire those brass at least three times so they are completely formed to the chamber. just neck size these so you dont push the shoulder back. Anyway you need a way to load them to start with so you need access to dies before you order your custom dies.

Don't be so sure. Yes, the scores are typically higher in F-Open than those in F/TR, as they should be considering the significant difference in the equipment rules.

But where I shoot, the guys in F/TR are very serious and you'd have a better chance at finishing well, or at least not last, by entering F-Open.

So much for the $1000 budget. The reality of the situation is that I want/like nice tools. I want/like to know that I have the right thing to accomplish whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish. I realize that everyone will never be able to agree on every item but this is what I've ended up with. I feel like it's a pretty good list. Items in bold are ordered. Items not in bold are on the "waiting for disposable funds replenishment ie: Christmas bonus" list. Ended up 2 plus times the original budget so I'd say all things are just about normal.

I'm now working on plans for the reloading bench and such in my gun room. Should be a fun project.

I really like custom dies ( Sid Goodling ) with a PMA Micro Die Adjuster. I really like the A.M.P. annealer. That A&D FX 120 W/Trickler set up will put a smile on your face for sure. The Benchrite Case Lathe is just a pleasure to use but will set you back a few $ .........That's just a few quick thoughts of some of the stuff that has made my reloading more pleasurable...........Best of luck..........Make it FUN..;)

With a woodworking shop like yours I can't wait to see the bench. I hope you'll post a picture. Keep in mind trigger time will yield better results than loading room time.Good luck with your project. JD

Thanks. I have a bench plan. Nothing very fancy but should be solid. I plan on making a reloading room thread when I get a bit farther.
