ShotMarker - the personal 8-mic e-target

Hey Adam. My suggestion would be to ask Peter Smith and company in Australia if they would do an unbiased third party test of your product. Their the engineers that test every E-Target they can get their hands on. I'm sure they would ship it back after testing. If you would like, I'll get there contact info.

Is it possible this very desireable product (electronic target) is about to exit beta and release an actual gen 1.0?

All you early adopters will continue to enjoy their Exidy Sorcerers, I am sure.

Go, gen 1 adopters, work out all the bugs. I anxiously await the arrival of the low cost and highly reliable gen 2.0.

I am betting gen 2.0 is about 18-24 months out and is already being designed by this company based on their experience with the manufacturing process, to be tweaked based on operational experience with gen 1. Price point $499-$599.

Go ahead, tell me I'm wrong.

Our club is installing these for next season. I was wondering if I can just plug a thumb drive in after each relay and copy the data to take home? I guess I might need the software on my home computer. Is that available?

The 'software' is (if I'm not mistaken) a Node.js webserver. So it's pretty unlikely that you'd be able to 'open' it up and have it look like on the target without some fairly involved effort.

Or are you referring to the point data? I think thats saved in a CSV file, which any spreadsheet program (M$ Excel, Open/Libre Office Calc, Google Sheets, Gnumeric, etc.) - or text editor - should be able to open.

There’s no ability to attach a thumb drive. You can take screenshots of the targets and share them or offload the extensive amount of actual data in a CsV file.

Here’s some examples.

As far as early adoption goes, I bought my shotmaker as soon as it was available to improve my shooting more than just paper targets. I can now practice 600-1000 yds without needing pullers, without driving back and forth and the feedback allows learning on the spot. But that’s me. If and when a better version comes out I will accept the depreciation on the one that I already bought, sell it and buy the newer model and continue enjoying and improving my shooting along the way. I’m not going to put off bettering my skills simply because I’m waiting for better technology than what’s out right now. Everyone has a threshold and admittedly I have the discretionary funds to do it. Others don’t and that’s ok too.

On a side note, knowing what Adam is capable of and how he designs stuff, he makes simple but long term functional and easy to replace hardware. He also packs a ton of room for software and firmware upgrades so I’d be shocked if his kit changed all that much other than updates to improve the GUI and user experience. But that’s my guess, it’s as good as anyone’s.

I agree, I believe the only changes I can see in near or distant future are software and firmware upgrades, there’s already been some. My advice to SWRichmond is if you can afford it now go buy it, it’s a great tool to improve your game and a lot of fun to use...There’s not a lot of room for improvement as far as I can see so far.. besides I think it’s very affordable for what your getting and if there ever is a #2 I would think the price will increase rather than decrease,...we will see but in the mean time I’m liking the Shotmarker a hell of a lot..

One improvement that may be possible is to resolve shots that arrive simultaneously on adjacent targets.

Shotmarker hasn’t had any issue with that for me. Shotmarker won’t even register crossfires across the target. But I know my buddy’s Solo has issues.

I am assuming from your avatar that you shoot only Fclass matches. In xcourse matches rapid fire strings, problems can occur with shots not being recorded if bullets arrive simultaneously on adjacent targets.

Fair enough. My apologies. I have no experience in those cases and am sorry you are experiencing them. By chance have you reached out to Adam to see if he can help?

The Highland Rim Shooters Club (HRSC) is an Air Force Base Services Club at the Air Force, Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) in Tennessee. HRSC is licensed by AEDC to oversee the civilian access and scheduling of the use of the AEDC KD range. The civilian usage of the AEDC KD Range includes NRA XTC, Mid Range and Long Range, CMP and Appleseed events.

One of our HRSC members has taken delivery of a ShotMarker electronic target system and has completed check out at 100 yards and we are now doing validation testing on the KD range in preparation of using these systems for HRSC XTC matches. XTC participation on the AEDC KD range was once very well attended but has been in decline in recent years. The plan is to increase participation in XTC on the AEDC KD range with the use of electronic targets.

Our experience to date with the one ShotMarker system has been favorable and we will continue to work to learn to use this system for the XTC application. We are learning and also following comments here by others and know there are some issues. We can not afford the $10k or even the $4k systems that are available. So we will do the best we can with the ShotMarker for now and see if we can bring XTC back to glory with this new technology.
