Shipping rates

Gentlemen(and ladies of course)
I got burned a couple of years back shipping a scope via UPS. Soo....now I'm gunshy to say the least.
My daughter has used an online service called pirateship.com. Rates are pushing "to good to be true"
Any of you fine folks have experience with them?

Very legit company. I have used it many many times both for usps and ups.

I had to ship a Nightforce scope from Penna. to Calif. USPS was $120 including insurance. Fedex was just about half that amount.

I almost exclusively use Fedex. Proper packing is key, if it moves or rattles when you shake it that is no good. If it is heavy it is extremely important that it is packed so it will not move. Loose items should be bagged with a business car included. Stretch wrap multiple items in a box together. Did I say packing is key?? Insurance is a ripoff. They will just say it was not packed correctly. This applies to every shipper.

How did you get "screwed" by UPS?
If you packaged it well and had a good address on it, shouldn't be any problems.
I find 99% of the time it's the senders fault. They won't admit it.

Yeah I wrapped it up pretty good in bubble wrap and the box was taped up tighter than a frogs ass..first time I’ve been burned, I guess life goes on and some puck face gets him some Cerus hardware.

Well...about 18 months ago I shipped a scope out of state and paid damn near 85 bucks. Totally my fault for not telling them to kick rocks. After that I've mostly used USPS.
In retrospect, that was a UPS "store". That might have played in.

I’ve also used pirateship a number of times for USPS & UPS. No problems yet.

I usually go overboard when shipping heavy stuff. I’ve done this a few times with no problems (yet). Takes too long to build but trying to avoid the hassles of broken boxes. Sides are glued & screwed.

They are legit and they work with most shippers, so you'll get a better price thru them even with usps. That said, usps recently lowered most of their package shipping prices so check both ways.

The UPS Stores are horrible, they jack the shipping prices at least double and charge more
for insurance then a over the counter UPS hub. Plus they want to package it too. more $$$
Thats how they make their money. Last place you want to ship a pkg. from.
And that's coming from a retired UPS driver.

I've recently started using USPS Ground Advantage, it's a little cheaper and about as fast as Priority Mail, check it out next time you ship!!!

Well....screw me once, shame on u, screw me twice, shame on me. They won't get a second chance
