So, hopefully the two in the orange were the first two and the flyer top left is the 3rd. What barrel profile is on the rifle? Thin hunter, or thick varmint profile?
Thanks for the replies. Yep, 100 yrds ... actually, probably more like 102-ish. Here's my set-upNicely done Doug. In a perfect world … if the scope mount taps are aligned with the bore axis, and the rings are straight, and the scope is not bent …. You should be fairly close at the center of the travel for windage. With no extra elevation in the rings or base, elevation may need some turning but typically less than a revolution. I’d say you are almost ready for minute of whitetail shooting. (Assuming your dot is 100 yards).
I can totally see how this all would work .... going to reread this again tonight and put this into action. Yep, I can see how this is an excellent test for a set-up. Thanks -Also. If you use the grid line targets if you strap your rifle on the bench you can check tracking while watching crosshairs. They will move backwards of what the knob says.
On my rifles I run a box test with live fire too.
Take your set up as it is now and write down the knob values for W/E or mark them with nail polish. Shoot one shot into the center of the target. The number of clicks is personal preference but i will move the knobs 3 moa left and 3 moa up. Shoot two shots … turn windage 6 Moa right shoot two shots. Turn elevation 6 moa down. Shoot two shots. Turn windage 6 moa left. Shoot two shots.
Should have a square of about 6” at 100 yards with two holes in each corner. Final step is to turn up 3 moa and right 3 moa and verify you are back to the same numbers on the dial you started with and shoot a final shot and see if it matches the first shot.
Then you will know if the Pro Staff should stay on the rifle or not and if you can trust it to track and return to zero on the rifle.
Actually the final shot was fully in the orange. Sorry, I don't know what barrel profile isSo, hopefully the two in the orange were the first two and the flyer top left is the 3rd. What barrel profile is on the rifle? Thin hunter, or thick varmint profile?
Can you post a pic of the gun?Actually the final shot was fully in the orange. Sorry, I don't know what barrel profile is. I've lived most of my life being into things like .45 and 9mm and only recently got interested in rifles. Now they're the most interesting platforms
Yeah, of course you're exactly right - exactly right. Don't worry, have other CF rifles that have never seen a round so I can experiment with thoseCan you post a pic of the gun?
What @Jeff Porter said is solid, however I would wait till after season for all that experimentation. If its hitting zero and holding go stack some meat!
LITFA Doug...go kill.![]()
That rifle is raw sex! Nice medium barrel profile too. So, you should be able to slow fire a 5 shot group without heat being an issue. My Kimber hunter 7mm-08 will shoot 2 rounds touching, then 3 is not pretty and any more is criminal. For hunting though, if you have to shoot more than twice with ultra accuracy, well...Yeah, of course you're exactly right - exactly right. Don't worry, have other CF rifles that have never seen a round so I can experiment with thosebut for now put something on the grill. Ah-yes. Here's this beastie. Thanks for everyone's help!!!

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't agree more. Around the mid-point of my career I became the senior guy, and while everyone else enjoyed laughing at newcomers and trying to point out deficiencies in their knowledge, I thoughtfully listened to them and their ideas, appreciating that no one knows it all, there's always something new to learn, and new perspectives can open doors. Feeling really happy with today's events, thanks everyone! When you are ready to wrap your head around more stuff let us know!I am doing the same on my level too! Students to the grave we should all be!
