Scope choices for 1K

I know nothing about @dmoran or what motivated her/him to start the private message stream where he rags on me about "my order would be". He seemed to take everything overly serious. As if he wanted to force me to do or write something.

Now others are joining in with no knowledge of what has transpired.

So distracting of the original post.

@jfseaman
If your going to quote me, from a Private Message, publicly where no one else can see the actual quote, please do not do so out of context, and quote the entirety.

Attaching a Screen-shot saved image of my entire quote from our PM exchange:

I fail to see how you take that as a threat.... but we all live in our own worlds.

If it’s distracting to the original post then why would you bring it to the thread? It probably would have been better to just leave it in the Private message IMO.

I did not want to embarrass you by pointing out that saying someones opinion is "bias falsey" and "next time, I will" is, to me a threat. If you don't see it that way that is your opinion.

My opinion is my opinion. Attempting to force me to change my opinion, justify my opinion or change my opinion is a form of interpersonal abuse.

If you had more simply stated, "I don't agree with your opinion and here are my reasons" then the whole thing would have just died.

Alrighty then.
Now that this is past will any of you that have Vortex high magnification scopes be at the BSWN? I'd like to take a peek through them, as they are the only scopes recommended that I haven't looked through.
Thanks,

Lloyd

To the OP, I would like to know if you have an upper limit on the magnification due to the fact that you are using sling and coat and not a bipod or a rest. I would think that very high magnification would be counterproductive in a rifle that is not on a mechanical rest of some kind. I may be all wrong as I have never shot high power with a scoped rifle higher than 20X, so please educate me.

Also, if you have a March 10-60 HM, why would you look for something else? Maybe I misread something.

I would think that the GE .095moa dot would be hard to see against the black of the target, especially with a wobble hold on a sling. I use scopes with .4 of .5 moa dots.

Good questions. I'n looking for a scope with at least a 32 power top end, 40+ would be better.
I have always been comfortable shooting higher magnification scopes than a lot of shooters use. I'm able to determine hold off better, and the movement that I see doesn't bother me like some shooters have stated.
The March is the top of the line in my estimation, but I don't like switching scopes from one rifle to the next. I'd rather have complete systems set up and ready to go.
I hope I answered you questions.
Thanks,

Lloyd

Your answers were very illuminating.
I do agree with you about the March and also about switching scopes between rifles. That said, I would suggest to you that another March scope would fit your requirements; there is none better for your needs.

There is a used 12-42nxs with 1/4 moa turrets in the classifieds right now for $1400....

I don't shoot much paper or groups at 1k+, I have a few NXS including an 8-32 and 12-42. The darkening of the image and what seems like a tighten eye box actually leads me to turn down the power on the 42 almost always. When I check where I turn it to, it's usually 30-34ish. For steel shooting like I do at that distance, I shoot at 18-20 a lot but will go to the top of the mag range to see exactly where I'm hitting.

Was shooting at 1200 a week or two ago and was about to put my last 3 shots into 4" with 18x.

If you can wait and be patient and pick up a 12-42 NXS with ¼ MOA turrets that is the best deal out there. It may take a month or two but the NXS is pretty much bullet proof, the ones with 1/8 turrets have been used by about 90% of the long range F'rs out there till the Comp scope came along. I own 2, the only reason I see to switch in my case is for a lighter scope. They are heavy in a class with a weight limit.

The ¼ MOA ones aren't popular with the F class crowd so they sell cheaper.

XTR,
I found one fairly local but it has a mildot reticle with 1/4 moa clicks. The reticle is worthless to me, but I'm wondering if NF can change out the reticle.
My bbl. wont be ready until late march, so I'll keep looking.
Thanks,

Lloyd

about 350 for a change...pass.
