Savage MKII Scope Recommendation help

All,
My 7 year old grand daughter is just about ready and I have her a new MKII and looking for a recommendation for optics AND rings along with height recommendation. Not looking to break the bank but certainly not interested in junk, especially having two more right behind her that'll continue on with it being their first use weapon.
Thanks all, Dave

Get a Picatinny rail on top from EGW or DIP, then you can easily swap scopes from the other rifles, also with the rail height you can use medium rings. I've got a 4-12 Bushnell with duplex on my shooter (have several MkII BV), inexpensive but good optics- also use an older 10X Bushnell, 12X Sightron (no longer in production) and recommend the Nikon 3-9 EFR with duplex.

Check out Mueller scopes. I have one in 4.5-14 X 40 that I like, it's in Weaver medium tactical rings on factory basses.

Thank you all, I went with a Weaver V16 4-16x42, may pull some double duty if I am as fond of it as I have been told ;)

I went with high burris signature zee rings and some inserts just to reach 100 yard zero on plain old weaver bases. The screw holes seemed a little off. But i am very happy now shooting an old tasco 8-32. Still testing ammo hoping for moa, and getting close for now.

If your daughter is shooting less than fifty yards get a .22scope...something more long range a/o on a good scope ...Neil

Dave,
Might I suggest you take a look at Mueller scopes for your daughter's new MKII. I have and have had a few MKII's that I've passed on to my young grandkids (7-9 yrs) who now shoot the rifles. As I recall, the scopes I used and mounted were the Mueller 8x32 AO variable and for the money, the clarity cannot be beat. As for rings, Burris Signature rings worked just fine and aren't that expensive, when compared to my Leupolds and a few others I have on my personal Bench guns. I also used EGW 20MOA bases that gave me a wider range of adjustability, because Mueller scopes have a different click system value than most other manufacturers (1 click = 1/8" vs 1 Click = 1/4") and with a zero MOA base, I ran out of windage adjustment on one of the MKII's, but got it back with the 20 MOA base.

My Mueller 4.5-14 APT has 1/4" clicks.

I can't speak to justin's model of Mueller scope. The 1/8" click information comes directly from the GM of Mueller when I sent my scope back to Mueller because of adjustment issues after the scope was checked out by Mueller themselves.
