Savage #12 F/TR rail questions

I have a F/TR, which has a bottom rail in which a removable sling swivel stud rides. To date I have attached a Harris Bipod. Two questions:

1) Due to the recoil of the rifle it tends to slide forward and I find myself having to readjust the bipod and retighten everything more often than I would hope. Has anyone had a similar experience with this setup and did you do anything to solve the problem?

2) I would also like to bolt a block of UHMW to the bottom of the rifle for use in a front rest. Has anyone come up with a simple solution for doing that? Sinclair makes an adapter, but it requires a fix stud for mounting.

I've never had one come loose in any front rail on either a factory Savage stock, Bell & Carlson or Choate, I use a Harris rail adt., Harris 6"-9" Swivel, Notch leg with Pod Paws.

Ditto. Use the actual Harris adapter, not the one that comes with the rifle. The Harris adapter has a set screw to fix it in place.

As for the fore-end plate... get a Track Plate from John Whidden - it should fit into the rail slot you have with no modification.

Thanks I found the plate - exactly what I was looking for. I see now that Harris makes both an american and a european adapter. I had not seen the european size before, but that looks like it will fit my rail perfectly.
