Rsmington 513T accuracy

No more questions about an 82 BR rifle~! Mine is a Remington 513T built in April 1940 for the military. It just happens to be bone stock and exceptionally clean~! I'm really happy reading all the favorable comments about the original 513Ts, especially regarding their accuracy and what kind of ammo they like~!

Wish I could find good barrel or get mine relined without waiting forever for it. Clean bore, but discovered it has a bulge in bore in the middle of barrel after I bought it.

I have a 1968 Rem 513T that I shoot with a scope in a local Vintage 22LR Match at 100 yds. Rules state the rifle must have been in production on or before 1968. I'm shooting against Winchester 52A's and B's and other assorted rifles. I usually place in the top 3, so my take is if you are a decent shooter and the gun hasn't been abused, the 513T will put you in contention against the other good vintage guns of it's era. Also it tends to like Eley Match and Lapua CenterX. And it also seems to like Norma TAC22. Go figure. Although the Norma tends to group well it will also give you the periodic "score-killing flyer".

I shot a 513T for as a four position rifle (indoor shooting) for a lot of years. The takeaway in that era was that the 513T and equivalent Winchester models would shoot as may 10's but the Rem 40X and Win 52's would beat them on X's.
That proved to be true in my experience, my overall scores did not increase dramatically but my X count did and I began to be a contender.
I still have a soft spot for 513's.

My recently acquired completely original "US PROPERTY" stamped 513-T was built in April 1940 and is exceptionally clean with a "like new" bright bore and unmarred wood Your post gave me considerable confidence that it will fulfill my expectations when I get to take it out for the first time. I plan to start with Wolf Rifle Match and . Wish me luck~!

Started shooting smallbore in the late 70's with a gun club 513-T indoors at 50 feet. It would shoot 10's when I had a good hold. I mostly used Remington SV or, better yet, Winchester T-22.

Any additional comments about the accuracy of the original training rifles made for the US Military~?? I'm gathering information so I can know what to expect the first time I take this treasure out.~! Just acquired it 2 months ago at a local show.
I have a couple of other good shooters (including (believe it or not) a Ruger M77/22. That one cost me 3x as much as the 513T when I bought it I wass't even looking to buy a firearm when I wound up standing next to a guy carrying it. He handed it to me when I asked him what it was. He told me and said he was trying to sell it. He told me he was asking $450 which I thought wa a decent price but was considerably more than I had in my pocket. I took the money out and counted it. He said "O.K., I'll take it~!!~! It surprised the heck out of me because you just don't buy a nice rifle for that kind of money. When I got it home and thoroughly examined it under good light, I was astounded by its fantastic condition.

Hmmmm~! Looks like there is little interest in the early 513Ts built for the U.S. Military. Somewhat disappointed~!

I honeslty haven't shot mine much since the 90's. Maybe I'll get it to the range one of these days. Since you appear to be anxious to keep your discussing going, here's a few groups I shot with mine years ago. Each set had one fouler group to the left of the two you see. I didn't have much time. I wanted to shoot it against a borrowed Anschutz 1413 position rifle and it started to drizzle. So no cleaning when changing ammo. Just a 5 shot fouling group followed by two groups for "record". Did the same with the Anschutz. Both rifles shot very similar groups with each ammo. These were shot at our 50 yd range. The white inner square on the target is a 1/2"

I used use the 513T to shoot BR50 targets with one homemade wind flag that I made from plans that were in Precision Shooting. It actually did pretty well considering.

BTW, mine was a commercial version but figured I'd share anyway

Your 513-T will shoot better than about anything factory made today, Tikka T1X or CZ 457 MTR..., it's one reason they are not allowed in factory ARA competitions, they shoot too good for that class. On the other hand, it won't shoot good enough to be competitive in the unlimited class. Yours being a U.S. Marked rifle, has no real bearing on how it shoots, just makes it different and more collectable to some people. I have not owned a 513 but I do have a 540X, which uses the same action as yours but is a single shot. Mine will shoot about like what Pat has posted, and sometimes better and worse, depends on the ammo, conditions, moon phase and all the other things that make .22LR so fickle at times. I like mine using peep sights. Shot one of the best groups ever with a 540X. 7 shots, that was all that was left in the box.

The 540X doesn't have the same action as the 513T. It's the same action as the 580, 581, 582 and 541S & -T with the rear locking lugs. The 513 is the same action as the 510, 511, 512, and 521T, which lock up on the bolt handle, receivers made of sheet metal stampings and have different triggers from the 540 family., The 540X and it's siblings have a trigger enclosed in a metal box, some of which have adjustment screws.
Most of the medium quality .22 target rifles such as the 513T, Win. 75 target, Mossberg 44 and 144, and Stevens 416 shoot quite well when in good condition with good ammo. The downside is the trigger. Hard to get it off when you want to and tends to move the rifle, particularly if not shooting off the bench. Trigger companies have not seen fit to make custom lighter triggers for them. Most of the later medium quality .22 target rifles also have heavy triggers, such as the H&R M12, the Rem. 541X and Kimber 82. So much easier to shoot better scores with a light trigger.

WOW and thanks~!! Both your comment and target are unbelievably encouraging.

Actually, the original trigger on mine isn't all that bad, maybe 4 lbs. But I was thinking about buying another original trigger group and having a gunsmith perform every trick he knows on it plus re-hardening it if possible. Like to see 1-1/2 to 2 lbs.

I just found and bought a single-shot adapter for my 513-T made of hard composite material on a digital printer. It's made to used in place the original magazine. Haven't used it yet so can't comment on the quality, useability, or practicality.

If it doesn't work too well, you can use the receiver insert from a Rem. 510 (single shot sporter version with the same action) if you can find one. It has a loading platform made as an extension of the receiver insert. View it here in the middle of the following page: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/remington/rifles-rem/510

I have not shot the one I have, it was my Grandfathers, long story there. Anyway I know he never had trouble taking a Fox Squirrel out of the top of a tall Northern Indiana Black Walnut with it. Woodchucks trying to sneak in the garden were not safe either.
