Rsmington 513T accuracy

For those of you who owned, have owned, or are very familiar with the Rem 513T I'd like to know just how accurate you have found them to be.

The 513T was made from 1940 till 1968. There will be a lot of variation depending on use, age, the assembly line lottery, and aftermarket add ons ie rebarreling triggers ect.
The only way to know how well your gun will shoot is to shoot it.

I bought mine for a dollar from a guy who years ago instructed for a local hi school team. Being 90 years od he decided to clean his garage and found it laying behind plywood. Appraently in the late 1970's he had it there to repair, it fell over and it was lost for 45 years. Daring not to "return" it to the school, he took it to the local Sheriff's office. I intercepted it and bought it. He didn't want it destroyed, but had bought into the hype over the years that it wasn't safe to let people have guns. He trusted the Sheriff's office firearms instructor! Anyhow, after cleaning the barrel for HOURS getting lead out, and refinishing it, putting in a new sear and replacing missing parts, I DT'd it, put on a T36 and it shot old 1970's T22 I had laying around into groups under 1/4 inch at 50. I never had access to good ammo, and eventually sold it in a down time to a guy on this forum in Texas. He bought it for his mom who shot one when she was in Hi school herself.

Clean it, try some SK, Lapua or Eley in it. If you have to, recrown it.

My 513T has a 20x Lyman Super Targetspot on it and averages about .3 at 50 yards.
What ammo are you shooting~?
The guy I bought mine from said Wolf Match Target shot best for him. I was going to stsrt with TAC-22 which has done well for me in several rifles. I've also ordered a brick of the WOLF

BTW., mine was made in 1940 and is marked ":US PROPERTY"~! It's unbelievably clean with a like new bore~!

I bought some SK match the last time I was at Drifters, Have not taken it to the range to try yet

Sorry for the late reply.
My 513T will shoot the .3 with SK Rifle Match.
It also does nearly as well with Eley Target, It does not like my lot of Eley Tenex.
Surprisingly, Federal Automatch will hold .5 usually.
I haven't tried the Wolf Match Target but I'd like to.
To me it is actually more fun to shoot than my Kimber 82 which is a proper bench gun.

I don't remember group size since it's been several years since I shot mine, but accuracy was good, but not in the same level as my 40X's H&R M12's, etc. To me it was good enough for head shooting squirrels, but not what I'd call a target rifle.

Thanks Rebeltex, just the news I was looking for. Some of my junk likes fed auto match some doesn't. I wish it all did that stuff is easy to find and afford.

From a cleaned but seasoned bore, my 82 G will shoot like a house afire for about 25 rounds and then craps out till I scrub the throat like it owes me money. It get old quick. If you squint till you can't see the scratch/cut, it has a beautiful stock.

Mine shoots just ok and never really thrilled me. The factory stock is really nice. The SSV stock I put it in is even better.

and back to 513T's. Mine looks as good as it shoots....

Back in the 80’s, I was prowling Houston pawn shops with a friend. The pawn shop guy dragged a 513T from the back of a huge safe, and took the $100 I offered. It had competition iron sights and a beautiful custom stock. I had it drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and that rifle was super accurate. It was boringly accurate at 50 yards. So boringly accurate that I finally sold it. Too heavy for squirrel hunting.

I always suspected that the rifle had been tweaked by a gunsmith. The trigger was too nice.

Did the replacement stock reduce the weight of the rifle at all~?
I won't shoot mine very often because of the weight but also becuse I'm a "lefty" and prefer shooting my 1885 Wnchester repro made for WRA by Miroku. The 1885 shoots 0.5" at 50 yards.
BTW, your 513T sure is pretty~!

It"s a custom build from on a 82 action, nothing stock about it.
I said it's a bench rifle... as in 0s and 1s .
Now what?
My apologies! I guess over the years I've seen too many people call their stock 82Gs a benchrest gun and I don't often hear of anyone who actually built a custom RFBR gun using a 82 action.

What did you mean by "now what"?

My guess is, do you have any more comments or questions concerning his 82 BR rifle? Remember, it's just a guess.
