RPR 6mm Creedmoor freebore?

So I'm a noob but if I understand the Tubb system and what it does are some magic bullets supposed to fix a throat that's .156" too shallow? Maybe I'm missing something.

They have a grit on them that is made to smooth out the throats and bore. If using just the lighter grit then you don't get much throat growth but using the heavier grit it can lengthen the throat. Read above in the thread about people using it. A smith using a throated is how I would go about it but the Tubb rounds can help.

And I agree you shouldn't have to pay to fix Ruger's mess up. You should call them first.

You are in the same situation as the others in this thread... the fact is you have to do something.

1. Call Tubb and see if his kit will move it out .156
2. Send it back to Ruger and get another barrel.
3. You or a Smith throat it out.
I'm with Rob on this, I'd throat it.

I know it is bought and paid for and should have been right. But it doesn't always work that way, and that is a sad thing.

Seat a bullet with the pressure ring well above the neck shoulder junction and have your gunsmith throat it to match that bullet. Wont take long
Listen to Dusty on this, or don t. Your can lead the horse to water but it's often to stubborn to drink.

Were it my rifle I would send it back to Ruger. They normally have a pretty sort turn around time. Include pictures that you have posted in this thread so there is no doubt to them what the concern is with the rifle. Ruger will pay shipping both ways and it won't cost you anything.

Stopped by the local gunsmith this afternoon just to get his take on my situation. Long and short of it he recommends Ruger dealing with it. He could certainly handle the work but it's going to be pricey. When I emailed Ruger to explain the issue in detail, I asked some questions and was disappointed with their generic response. I'll end up boxing it up and we'll see what happens.mir_20190119_114505.jpg

Pricey? How much did he say? Shouldn't be much to just open the throat up much. Should be less than shipping to Ruger or maybe a little more.

His quote wasn't cheap as I know he didnt have the tooling for this operation / caliber. His honest suggestion was to send it back. While I'm not happy with Rugers "laid back" answers to my concerns, I think I'll follow his advice. He had nothing but praise for their actual customer service.

Or rent it and have your smith do it. Will be less than shipping rifle back and done in much shorter time. Shouldn't take him long at all. Less than an hour for sure.

Should be very little cost if you have work done there already- maybe 30mins for his first time. Why would you send it to ruger- they dont even know what the issue is or it wouldnt have happened in the first place. They used the same reamer they use in all their rifles- saami spec. Theyre not going to order a new reamer just to fix a problem they dont even know exists theyll just kick a hundred more out while it sits there getting another saami spec barrel that checks out on their gages (if that).

I agree with Dusty. I would do it myself,or have the Smith do it. Ruger seems really lost when it comes to this situation for some reason.

Well i went ahead and bought one ,ill know in a couple weeks if it needs work or not i guess.
Pretty excited to try the 6mm Creedmoor round out. I’ve shot a bunch of 6.5 cm and just looking for something new to play with.

Interesting....just happen to stumble on this thread. My brother just picked up a RPR 6 CM, I have been shooting a 6.5 for 3 years and love it, it has been a wonderful accurate out of the box rifle.
My brothers gun just arrived the other day, we have brass and bullets (105 hybrids) coming, I am now reeeeeeal curious what we will find when we measure the throat!....if it is screwed up like many appear to be, I will just buy the throating kit and do it ourselves. If Ruger screwed this up that bad the first time, not sure I would trust them to get it right the second time?

We received the 6CM measure case and checked the throat in my brothers gun, its fine, a Berger 105 hybrid gives us 2.844 OAL touching the lands. His gun is the Gen 2.

Using a throating reamer is very easy. You just need to go SLOW!! they will cut fast and easy!! My smith used the wrong reamer on my 284 and my throat was way short when we realized what happened he said I will send you my throating reamer you can cut it to what you want or need. I was really nervous about doing it but it came with instructions and was easy to do. I would highly recommend doing it this way.....

So here's the progress to this situation as of yesterday....

This is not the original rifle I sent back to Ruger but a brand new Gen3 that Ruger offered to pay for. Same exact issue.

After about 6 weeks at Ruger they offered me a new RPR in another caliber and I refused. They claimed they didnt have barrels or reamers and couldnt advise when they would.

I honestly cant believe I've had TWO of these with the same damn issue. No way this is an isolated problem and I cant believe more people aren't reporting this out there. I'm at a loss what to do from here but this is going on too long and I'm waiting for their solution.

Guys, it is not the length of the throats that are the problem, it is the dia and quality that is causing the issues and giving guys the false readings and the idea that there is a very short throat.
As posted above my brother received his gen 2 RPR 6mm and as a brand new gun we had no issues sliding a bullet into the throat to measure off the lands. After running the first 200 rnds down the barrel, he received a new lot # of bullets (Berger 105 hybrids). As we went to measure them we were very surprised it had to be forced into the throat, and when forcefully removed had the same marks as the pics above.
For kicks I picked up a bore scope and shot a few pics of his barrel....WOW! Ruger has a serious issue with the quality of barrels they are having made or are making themselves!

Now keep in mind this barrel has only had 230 rnds (42g H4350 and Berger 105 hybrids .020 off) down it with proper cleaning.
I have a 6.5 barrel with over 2k rnds that doesnt look any worse than this.....

Here is the entrance into the throat, and it is this messed up all 360* around.

Here are a few picks of the transition to the lands. There is severe checking for at least 12 - 14 inches down the barrel.
