RPR 6mm Creedmoor freebore?

My brother has ordered one of the Tubbs polish kits, when they have been fired through this I will re take some picks and post them for either good or bad results....;)

Too bad you don't have before pictures. That is one ugly moe foe. I know it's 230 rounds and looks like that, the before pictures had to be nasty.

Subscribed...just joined the forum after investigating similar problems with my new gen2. I'm just getting into reloading with this rifle, so this is a trial by fire. Any drawbacks to running 108 elds around 2.65" COAL over 41 grains of h4350, if they shoot ok? Hybrid Berger 105s shot well, but I don't have enough for a match this weekend.

I ordered 100 of the Hornady 108g ELD-M to try out in my Gen 2 RPR. Totally unusable IMO. Even after running the Tubb kit and 200 rounds afterwards, at magazine length, these would be jammed about .110".

Update: My brother ran the Tubbs kit through his RPR 6mm. It is a definite improvement, we can now insert a bullet into the throat without force.
The gun seems to clean easier, but still catches a lot of copper compared to a barrel with proper finish.
It does appear to be shooting better, I shot a 5 shot group @100 that was just under .400. The test will be at the next 600yd match with 90 rnds down it.
The goal was to get it to where he could enjoy it for a while before investing in a new barrel. I think sending it back to Ruger is a waste of time.

I know its been a few months, but are there any updates?

Has anyone gone the route of renting a reamer and doing it themselves?

The reason I ask is I had a spur of the moment buy last week on a Gen2 6mm RPR. I'll hopefully be picking it up tomorrow and the rest of the stuff coming in a few days.

Just to get a feel for the gun and some rounds down the barrel I bought some Nosler custom competition bullets on sale for cheap. They are the 105gr version. I am hoping they will fit fine. From what I hear throat erosion happens pretty quickly on these guns, so maybe the throat will wear away after going through the Noslers and allow me to try out some longer/heavier bullets.

Recently purchased an RPR in 6mm Creedmoor. Max OAL in the Magpul pmags is around 2.810" which resulted in a relatively hard jam into the lands with Berger 105gr hybrids. Using 41.8 H4350 and CCI BR-2, my initial 3 shot group (after sighting-in) was around 0.19" - that plus the factory Hornady 108gr eld shot in a 5-shot group of 0.69" is all the grouping data that I have. Only 30 rounds through so far (including letting a friend shoot 6 rounds into a sub-moa group using factory Hornady loads). The factory rounds weren't into the lands even though they were just under 2.80" OAL. Loaded some Bergers at 2.80" and they are still lightly jammed but I haven't been able to shoot them yet. Local range is closed for lead cleaning until August 4 so I have put shooting stuff aside.

Question: anyone know the RPR 6mm Creedmoor freebore? Seems like it might have been optimized for 105gr bullets in mag length loads with a decent amount of headroom for chasing the lands. 115gr DTAC bullets might be problematic depending on ogive shape but will definitely eat into powder space...

Mine was very short throated from the factory.

Just check them with the Hornady ,or comparable, tool for touching the lands on your rifle. And go from there. Probably as short as mine in the beginning. After 1800 rounds I'm now at where AOL touching the lands is about 2.790" with 108-115 gr bullets.

Do we have an update on this? I’m looking for a 6mm and can’t decide what to do. Howa 6mm is to deep throated. Now I’m seeing issues with barrels on the rpr. We shouldn't have to shoot the run the tubbs kit to make a barrel something it should be from the factory. Sorry you guys are having issues.

Looking at a gen 2/3 depending on price.

Thanks.

The Tubbs kit certainly improved my brothers barrel, but it is still a copper catching machine and very erratic in accuracy.....so pretty much gave up on it. He has a new Bartlein barrel on order for it.
Between myself and my buddies we have 4, 6.5 RPR's and they have all been great shooters right out of the box. My brothers 6mm CM RPR was unfortunately a pile!

I keep seeing guys saying the throats are to short, that is NOT the problem. The throats are finished shitty and to small dia.

I thought I had updated on my gun, but I guess I did not in this thread.

My 2nd gen is a tack driver. Yea, the throat is tight, but it must be just right because I have not had any issues from it. I'm hoping to get some better optics for it next year, but for now its a great shooter with the Nosler Custom Competition bullets. 105gr.
