With that example, I'll be the odd one out and say I like the satin one. Both look good. Personal preference is all.
I would really like to see pictures of that if your client is ok sharing.I think the grain is easier to see in the satin one. I have a project I'll be working on that Roy is going to do a traditional finish on for me, to match the color cased action and rust blued octagon barrelGoing for that classic look but in a modern bench gun. Really looking forward to that project.

any concerns with the color case hardening warping the action?

Haha! Imagine the fireball. Hope the finish is heat resistant. Maybe clear coat with some clear VHT used for exhaust and barbecuesThat’s one short barrel Roy.
That will be very very cool. I look forward to seeing pictures of that. What a great idea, super old school that shoots bug holes!I think the grain is easier to see in the satin one. Try it outdoors on a cloudy day. Your lighting is too direct for such a glossy surface, IMHO. After the sun goes down but before it gets dark can be nice as well. They call that magic light in the business.I can't get good photos of this stock!!!View attachment 1516008View attachment 1516009
That sure is a purty thang! I'm a sucker for pretty wood and that one meets my standards, easily.Someone mentioned TruOil. This is a hand rubbed satin oil finish that I did with TruOil. I’m no expert but it was fun to do and I like it.
