Rimfire- Accuracy

The factory trigger will not lower safely for the pinch, I don't think. If I can get the Herb Smith modification(2 oz to 16oz range), it maybe possible. For the matches I shoot, no bipod, no 1 piece rest. So not sure how zero hold/trigger pinch could work. Could use/need an adjustable front rest(joy stick possibly). Considering pillars/bedding the action, do rimfire rifles benefit from bedding? Currently 15 inch pounds on the action screws.
If you are comfortable working on one, a factory CZ trigger will safely go to about 3 oz. easily, sometimes a little less.

My bad....I see you are talking about an M12.

My CZ 457 MTR with a 5# bipod on a pair of split steel plates recoils backwards about an inch using a pinch on the trigger. I use a PQP mechanical rear rest. If you tense up a little with your 'pinch" fingers it causes the rifle to move to the rear slower and less and throws the shot high(er) by as much as a half inch. If you don't think a 22 RF has recoil place the rifle butt against the bridge of your nose and (pointed safely) pull the trigger.
I learned the same thing the hard way. Your thumb behind the trigger guard affects the rate of recoil movement. It doesn’t work for me.

I was lot testing. 12 lots. Decided on SK biathlon sport. Five ten shot groups averaged .309. I was happy with it. Second place was SK long range match. All at 50 yds. A little switchy wind in the single digits. I think about everything I tested was going inside of 3/4”. Biathlon has an sd of 7 through 20 rds. I’m new to shooting 22’s for precision, so I don’t have a baseline.

Quick range visit. 100 yards. Tac22. Lower left warming the barrel, using free hold and pinching trigger, control rds. Scoring targets 53.0 gr 52.9 GR and 52.8 gr rounds, and straight from box, control ammoIMG_20250405_145327029.jpg. It appears my rifle technique needs work? The pinch trigger, not shouldering rifle was not comfortable. But weighing rounds not as important as hold??

I shoulder the rifle and use the "pinch Trigger" method, and I get very satisfactory results, .311 center to center groups at 50 yards. Having read the OP's comments maybe I should be weighing cartridges to try to improve. Sounds reasonable to me~!!

No~! No~! No~! It's nor a canon. A rifle is meant to be shouldered. If I were judging and spotted a shooter who was not shouldering his rifle even when using bags, I would disqualify him. Just my 2-cents~!!!!
One of the single dumbest things I ‘ve ever read here.
If you’ve ever been to any benchrest match of ANY kind, thet’s exactly how most guns are shot RF or CF.

To TRSR8: So it boils down to who has the best rifle, scope, and ammo while
the shooter himself is left out of the equation. Is that what you are saying~!
Thank you for crediting me with having made "one of the dumbest things" you've ever read here~!!!!

Each shooting discipline has its own "style" of shooting that most seem to follow. Pinching may be the way BR competitors have found works best. That's not how most longrange steel plate competitors do it but do pay very careful attention to minute variances in how human contact is with the gun.

Any slight variation to a different finger tension touching the grip, cheek or shoulder pressure ever so slightly varying along with how the gun sits in its resting position cause it to shoot to a different point of aim.

Shooting longrange handgun quickly shows how these tiny variances show up downrange. Shooting free recoil eliminates most human input but learning to finesse each shot the same can really improve groups/score. Also, shooting the best ammo you can find will eliminate one variable so you can work on the human input problems.

I wouldn't go THAT far.... There are a lot of people who post here...;)
“ Disqualify” somebody for not “ shouldering” a rifle?
I have shot, been a match director, and a ref at RF and CF matches for decades.
In all that time, never have I heard anything as remotely uninformed, no doubt my new buddy has never been anywhere near a BR match.
And yes, I realize lots of folks post, apparently some……heavily medicated..
Must be head of the local “ HEY you kids get off of my lawn” association

I have to say there are a wide and varied group of firearm lovers who shoot all different kinds of shooting sports - both organized and just for individual fun and satisfaction. It may be difficult to see another's viewpoints when you have never participated in their specific type of games/competitions. So... what looks to be a narrow viewpoint may just be a lack of understanding of what "we" take for granted..?
